Band 6/7 Locum Speech and Language Therapist - Voice Specialist with Dysphagia Experience

* 3-month Locum contracts (potential to extended thereafter)

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Band 6/7 Locum Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to cover outpatient voice clinics at East Surrey Hospital. The successful candidate will specialise in voice disorders and have experience managing dysphagia. This role involves providing comprehensive assessment and treatment for patients with voice disorders and swallowing difficulties, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment and Evaluation
Conduct detailed assessments of patients presenting with voice disorders and dysphagia.
Utilize a range of diagnostic tools and techniques to evaluate vocal function, resonance, pitch, loudness, and swallowing safety.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient goals.
Therapeutic Interventions
Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions for patients with voice disorders, including vocal hygiene education, voice therapy techniques, and post-surgical voice rehabilitation.
Manage dysphagia cases, offering strategies to improve swallowing function and safety, including exercises, compensatory techniques, and dietary modifications.
Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and feedback.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with ENT specialists, gastroenterologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated care.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussions, and care planning sessions.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, providing education and support.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and organizational standards for documentation.
Prepare detailed reports on patient progress and outcomes for the multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders.
Professional Development and Education
Stay current with advancements in voice therapy, dysphagia management, and related research.
Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) activities and reflective practice.
Provide training and support to junior therapists, therapy assistants, and students.
Develop and deliver educational resources and training programs for patients, families, and healthcare staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy from an accredited institution.
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* At least 2 years of post-qualification experience for Band 6 or 4 years for Band 7, with significant experience in voice therapy and dysphagia management.
* Strong clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
* Previous experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
* Advanced training or certification in voice therapy and dysphagia management.
* Experience in conducting and participating in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
Working Conditions
* Location: Outpatient Voice Clinics, East Surrey Hospital
* Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (may include some flexibility)
* Contract Type: Locum, temporary
