You will be pivotal in providing high quality and robust conservation and retrofit advice, in order to promote and deliver sustainability while ensuring that our precious historic environment is enhanced and protected. You will be the first person in this new and innovative role - shaping how the historic buildings of the District adapt to and mitigate the climate and ecological emergencies.

Our Heritage and Design Service is fundamental to the success of the Council's ambition for a sustainable future - protecting and enhancing the best of the past, while looking to the future and addressing the climate and ecological emergencies. The Service is involved in a wide range of development projects, as well as drafting new conservation, design and retrofit Local Plan policies. Our focus is to enable our communities in the Cotswold district and beyond to thrive, creating great places for people to live, work, learn and enjoy in our ever-evolving communities.

As a Senior Conservation and Retrofit Officer, you will lead in collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including property owners, developers, Historic England and other partners, to protect and enhance the unique natural, historic and built environment of the Cotswolds, while ensuring we meet the challenges of the future..

In managing a variety of conservation and retrofit cases, you will need to be a technical expert within this field and the responsibilities in the role profile reflect this. You will provide key inputs into a variety of complex cases at both application and pre-application stages, as well as dealing with enforcement and heritage at risk cases.

You will also prepare retrofit guidance for the owners of historic buildings and provide training in retrofit and decarbonisation. In order to do this, you will need a flexible but robust approach and to work together effectively to create positive change.

You will need?

  • A postgraduate qualification in your area of expertise and/or relevant experience of at least five years
  • High level of knowledge, understanding and experience of all aspects of conservation and retrofit/decarbonisation of historic buildings, particularly those relevant to the planning system
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of being involved in continuously improving services and developing products to meet customer need.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues.
