Role DescriptionnOur client is a leading supplier of retail merchandising systems. They are looking for a Design Development Engineer with 3 to 5 years’ design experience, as well as a Senior Design Development Engineer with 5 to 10 years’ design experience. Design experience must be in mixed material solutions including metal, timber, plastic, glass and graphics – ideally from the Retail Fit-Out / POS sector. Both roles are full-time (hybrid).

This is a great opportunity to create engineering solutions aligned with the company’s manufacturing and outsourced capabilities, as well as liaising closely with customers and account managers to establish a thorough understanding of the design brief, manufacturing and sourcing. Working to tight deadlines, you will be responsible for converting a design brief into an engaging and compelling design solution.

Key Accountabilities:n• Working alongside and supporting the sales team, and other areas of the business to ensure that customers’ design development needs and requirements are met and understood.n• Being able to receive and understand design briefs, being knowledgeable in the type of information required, how and when to challenge a brief and have an ability to provide opinions and proposals at the briefing stage.n• A good knowledge of the design process including current and upcoming trends, retail markets together with consumer and brand insights.n• The ability to produce high quality engineering drawings in CAD and Inventor, to accurately communicate design engineering requirements.n• Producing design solutions which are engaging, innovative and functional.n• Capable of persuading customer through design process to influence best outcome for both parties.n• Direct engagement with customers through the aid of digital devices to enhance the customer experience and speed up the process of communication to get to final design proposal delivered quicker.n• Own and manage the entire project / prototype process of the design to gain customer approval, including production in which a prototype can be created.n• Working with the internal team of stakeholders and the customer to ensure that the prototype is created within project timelines, specifications and expectations.n• Manage workload through a design development tracker to ensure deadlines are always met and communicated with customers and the sales team.n• Document and share design development areas of best practice.n• Suggest, present & incorporate VAVE ideas into all design briefs to enhance profitability.n• Ensure specification / risk and O&M manuals are produced and issued.n• National, European and International travel may be required from time to time and at short notice.n• Attend relevant training and exhibitions / conferences to continuously develop knowledge and skills.n• Ensuring that safe working practices are met and in line with all legislative requirements.

Education / Skills / Experience:n• Design computer literacy is required with proven skills in Inventor or similar works package.n• Experience in mixed material solutions including metal, timber, plastic, glass and graphics.n• Educated to high achievement A level, ideally degree level or equivalent.n• Proven track record of delivering high quality & accurate drawings in CAD and Inventor, to communicate design intent.n• Demonstrable evidence of developing strong relationships with multi contact points within a customer.n• Understanding of the customer design decision making process and the ability to articulate solutions to gain new project / initiative work.n• Ability to plan, organise, communicate and manage customer relationships.n• Strong presentation and communication skills.n• Very well organised with strong time management skills to manage workload and achieve deadlines.n• Positive attitude, driven, energetic, team player and professionally ambitious.n• Strong sense of urgency.n• Excellent presentation skills with a keen eye for detail.n• Self-starter, independent and self-sufficient.n• Solution orientated.n• Confident at articulating engineering design ideas
