As Maintenance Fitter you will provide the necessary skills to ensure that the mechanical maintenance for all operational activities and equipment on site is carried out. You will ensure that all planned and preventative maintenance is carried out in accordance with the maintenance plans; you will be responsible for completing daily inspections including identification, reporting and rectification of faults to reduce breakdowns and improve plant reliability.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND FUNCTIONS:
Working to Heidelberg Materials Sustainability Policy.
Effective communications with Heidelberg Materials personnel, sub contractors and suppliers.
To assist electrical and production departments as and when required.
Health and Safety of self and others.
You will be required to provide out of hours breakdown cover on a callout rota arranged with management team.
Safe and effective use of resources.
Recording of all Accidents, near hits & incidents.
Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with the schedules and procedures.
Ensure that all maintenance carried out is accurately recorded for reference purposes.
Ensure that workshops, equipment and facilities are adequate and maintained.
Ensure that risk assessments and method statements for planned work are in place.
Ensure safe and efficient control and operation of any machinery trained and competent to use.
Assist with the development and improvement of existing plant and equipment.
Assist with the co-ordination of planned shutdowns ensuring that all maintenance activities are carried out.
Provide holiday and sickness cover for the plant operators, whilst covering shifts you will be responsible for taking plant samples, maintenance duties, cleaning duties and deputising for the Miller.
To ensure that isolations and isolation procedures are accurately carried out.
Supervision of sub contractors as required.
Working for other Heidelberg Materials sites as required.
To ensure that work areas are in a clean and safe condition at all times.
Correct storage and distribution of oils & lubricants and gases.
Identify unacceptable spillages within the plants and take the necessary remedial action.
Any other duties which the position demands.
AUTHORITY:
Shutting down the process when there is a risk to people, the environment and the plant.
Altering plant parameters to ensure that quality standards and plant performance are met or to protect the equipment.

Operational Knowledge of the production plants.
Certified mobile plant driving licences (Forklift, Bobcat & Loading shovel, MEWP).
Preventative maintenance techniques and practices.
Thorough Understanding of Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements.
Systematic approach to problem solving and solution finding.
Full understanding of electrical isolation and permitting procedures.
To have served a recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical or welding and fabrication disciplines.
Possess fault finding skills.
Basic planning skills.
To be self motivated.
Ability to work as a team.
Ability to work without supervision.
Flexible regarding tasks and working hours.
Good verbal and written communication.
To comply with all aspects of the Heidelberg Materials Sustainability Policy.
To ensure that all the business/operations are performed in accordance with instructions and procedures and in such a way so as to prevent any fraudulent activities taking place.
To update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required.
