Position Description :

Anti-theft Engineer - Vehicle Crime Specialist

Rate: £29.50 (Via Umbrella PAYE) increasing to £35.65 after 13 weeks under AWR’s – Agency Worker Regulations

This role is a varied and highly visible one within the wider Vehicle & Connected Cybersecurity team. It is critical to the success of vehicle programs such that legislated anti-theft obligations and territorial insurance-industry led requirements are met, and in addition, vehicles are adequately resilient per market to the multitude of real-world theft risks. This is a cradle to grave responsibility requiring work with cross functional teams across our client’s network from initial concept through to OPD actions and TVM opportunities. Additionally identifying new security centred revenue streams and supporting existing anti-theft accessory programs forms part of the role. The role also encompasses some external liaison with, for example, law enforcement, insurance loss adjusters, Government agencies, Government ministers and trade associations. This is a unique role that offers the successful candidate the opportunity to make a difference in helping to deliver physical vehicle security performance that rewards the customer and thwarts the thief.

The successful candidate will continue to develop leadership and mentoring skills and will have the opportunity to guide program teams through all stages of design such that appropriate security performance can be achieved for all markets receiving a new vehicle and take part in testing, internal signoff, and external validation/signoff activities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead discussions and global PD engineers through to “design vehicle platforms for anti-theft” - such that vehicles are designed with security capability embedded
  • Host and organise Security PAT meetings with program and platform teams
  • Author, maintain and report-out FEDE requirements and program milestone status
  • Manage project deliverables from internal service providers and external verifiers
  • Gather business and technical requirements
  • Define and obtain buy-in to the scope of security enhancements
  • Develop and manage test schedules
  • Manage the expectations of key stakeholders to CPE level.
  • Lead appropriate change control and configuration management processes
  • Manage the issues and risks, both technical content and timing and develop contingency plans
  • Ensure there is a robust estimated status, for each program and milestone/gateway, documented and recorded with engineering contacts. This to demonstrate attribute performance, and record commitments to actions from our client’s global teams.
  • Ensure the production of appropriate evidential documents for FEDE results uploads.
  • Work with marketing and other departments to drive forward security enhancements. Deliver new competitive security strategies against challenging headwinds - new real-world threats, changing legislation, and changing insurance requirement

  • Skills & Experience Required:
  • Either be degree educated or be able to demonstrate that the requisite skills for the job have been gained through experience
  • Customer-centric mindset and for building customer relationships
  • Effective communication skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Good time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills
  • Extensive mechanical and electrical/electronic fitting skillset gained in a workshop environment
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle security technologies and the insurance industry/group rating
  • Knowledge and understanding of vehicle crime, ideally gained through a dealership or workshop type environment & ideally from the perspective of customer facing crime prevention. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of common attack methods, criminal business models (supply chains and logistics) and grey market tool supply
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the whole vehicle to component level. Ideally gained in a dealership or workshop environment, the candidate should know “what / where / how it interacts” for all component parts of the vehicle.
  • Have working knowledge of vehicle diagnostics tools and processes.
  • Extensive experience working in tackling vehicle crime, stolen vehicle examination, working with insurance agents and vehicle/component ID

Skills Preferred:

Dealer level diagnostics experience

CAD proficiency

Experience Preferred:

Experience using diagnostic tools to identify vehicles and parts.

CAD proficiency

Education Required:

Engineering Degree or equivalent life experience

Education Preferred :

MSc in a related subject

Additional Information :

**INSIDE IR35**

Travel: Yes, potentially to Germany, Romania, Turkey or the USA

Hybrid - at least 3 days per week on site in Dunton, Essex

The role will entail an amount of physical ‘on the tools’ work, and as such the applicant should be both adequately skilled with hand tools and able physically to perform the tasks which can also involve lifting.
