Due to rapid growth and expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Technical Engineering department, for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the team. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will report to the Technical Director and will have the following key responsibilities:

  1. Oversee all technical engineering design procedures and resources.
  2. Ensure that all technical engineering work is completed to all relevant internal and external procedures & processes.
  3. Identify and implementing opportunities for improvement and innovation in the mechanical engineering processes and practices.
  4. Approve the mechanical engineering work of engineers and subcontractors.
  5. Conduct activities in accordance with Company working practices, to meet all legal obligations and Enshore HSEQS requirements.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer is expected to improve the work processes and be a technical governance for the discipline. The scope will include studies and tenders as well as live projects.

Key Tasks:
  1. Undertake the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems and components for offshore projects including trenching asset and vessel equipment.
  2. Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of the mechanical design.
  3. Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, and reports.
  4. Collaborate with other engineers, designers, contractors, and clients to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the mechanical engineering deliverables.
  5. Approve the mechanical engineering work of junior engineers and subcontractors.
  6. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for the installation, commissioning, and operation of the mechanical systems and components.
  7. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement and innovation in the mechanical engineering processes and practices.
  8. Manage the technical engineering department workload and resources planning.
Key Behaviours:
  1. Strong mechanical engineering background.
  2. Good understanding of hydraulic systems and basic hydraulic design.
  3. Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  4. Proficiency in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks and Inventor, and 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD.
  5. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, such as API, ASME, ISO, and DNV mechanical analysis, such as stress, fatigue, vibration, and thermal.
  6. Experience in Technical Engineering projects, budgets, and schedules.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Ability to work under pressure of tight timeframes.
  9. Proactive with own initiative and flexible in work approach.
  10. Capable of working with minimum supervision as a solution provider.
  11. Demonstrate solutions and creative problem-solving abilities - able to suggest and develop new methods and ways of working.
  12. Ability to organize and prioritize own work and have responsibility for discrete work packages ongoing simultaneously.
