Lincolnshire, United Kingdom Nacro Full time
Support Worker – Full Time
Lincolnshire NEST (Nacro Education, Support and Transition) Youth Housing
Actual Starting Salary £24,962 per annum
Interviews to be held 26th September.
Our aim is to inspire the Young People we support to be ambitious and embrace new opportunities. We enable them to have new experiences and develop new skills to become independent and we support them in their transition to adulthood.
Are you passionate helping others?   Do you want to make a positive impact every day you come to work? If the answer is yes, then look no further
Here at NEST we are commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council Children Services to provide accommodation and support to 16-21 year olds across the county of Lincolnshire.
This role is based at one of our hubs located within the city of Lincoln where we offer safe accommodation and support for 26 young people.
In this role you will work as part of a dedicated 24 hour staff team supporting the journey of our Young People from move in to move on.
Most of our young people have experienced some level of childhood trauma and as such they all have a variety of support needs varying from substance misuse, undiagnosed learning needs, a lack of independent living skills, offending behaviours and mental health needs. As a Support Worker, you'll be responsible for coordinating the support for a number of young people to meet their needs.  You will be involved in the delivery of support to all Young People as and when they need us.
Every day will offer a range of exciting new challenges and opportunities for you to make a difference. Your motivation and creativity is key to the opportunities you create to engage your young people.  One day you may be supporting a young person to devise a meal plan and support them to cook a meal. The next, you may hosting an activity for the young people as a group.  Some days, you may find yourself offering emotional support to the young people, supporting them to build emotional resilience and to adopt 'safer' coping strategies.
NEST is a very busy place to work, whilst we plan in advance the ability to react and deliver the support our Young People need when they need it, is critical.
Our Young People can challenge us, they can break rules and push boundaries but, for many, they do this because they’ve never had any boundaries to follow; so they don’t know how to. We need our team to build up trust, so our young people see us as positive people in their life.
We don't do personal care, restraints, or community supervision here. Our young people are capable individuals we treat with respect, actively preparing them for independence. You'll be their guide, using creativity to encourage their participation in support sessions. There's paperwork involved (action planning, safety planning, monitoring), but it's all about documenting their progress
Our young people need individuals who will be
Empathetic and creative with a solutions-oriented mind.
A positive force, encouraging a can-do attitude.
Resilient and calm under pressure, fostering positive communication.
Thrives on creativity and can think on their feet.
Committed to lone working to and ensuring their safety.
Overall our young people need someone who is truly invested in their journey at NEST  who can become a trusted individual in their life.
All of our young people have a story to tell. Do you want to be a part of their story?
Things you need to know
Hours 40 on average a week, including a paid break
.
As we support Young People in their home around the clock, this role involves shift work 8am – 6pm on a 3 week rolling rota to include one weekend, this role does not include evening or overnight working.
Your annual salary rises on an incremental basis
To help our Young People feel at home the dress code for this role is smart casual
The following is required for this role;
An Enhanced and Barred DBS check,
An understanding of your full employment and education history
Satisfactory references one of which must be from your current / most recent employer
At Nacro we value our people and want everyone to thrive in their role.
Our recruitment checks, induction, ongoing support and supervision alongside our learning and development offer to all staff reflect our commitment to developing our team.
We also offer excellent benefits including a great annual leave entitlement, additional special leave, an occupational sick pay scheme which exceeds statutory requirements and cycle-to-work scheme.  For full details about Nacro's amazing benefits, please click .
I started working with Nacro as a Trainee Project Worker, gaining experience with young people and adults facing challenges. The support I received was amazing, the supportive environment helped me grow from Support Worker to Senior Worker, then to leading my own team as a manager.  I learnt a lot Now, I use that experience in our central Safeguarding and Quality team working as a Policy and Practice Manager, impacting services like NEST on a wider scale. What keeps me going? Amazing colleagues, the chance to constantly learn, and the knowledge that our work truly changes lives
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
To ensure excellent standards of service NEST is delivered in line with the Supported Accommodation Regulations 2023.
We are a national social justice charity with more than 50 years’ experience of changing lives, building stronger communities, and reducing crime. Last year alone we helped support, house, educate, advise, and speak out for 38,000 disadvantaged young people and adults - you could now help us make an even bigger impact going forward
