What will you achieve in the next 12 months?
After a thorough and supportive induction, you will be confident in speaking with younger and older adults, primarily via the telephone. You will be confident in offering information and advice to people and professionals and will work in partnership with other agencies, making onward referrals, and involving other services to support better outcomes for people.
You will develop confidence in assessment skills and risk evaluation and understand more about basic human needs. You will gain skills around support planning and reviewing care packages. You will be supporting people to retain their independence, regain control over their lives, and reach their potential.
You will become familiar with key policies and legislation and help to ensure the Local Authority is meeting its duties and responsibilities under The Care Act and other frameworks. You will attend training on safeguarding and other essential areas of practice.
You will have had experience in working with people in sometimes difficult situations, their carers, other professionals, and with managing conflict. You will build on communication skills and become effective communicating both verbally and through written formats.
You will have developed skills in managing and prioritising your workload individually and work well as part of a caring and hardworking team. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the team’s growth and development, and to contribute to wider working practices across adult social care in Devon.
You will have good time management skills and be able to work under pressure. You need to be IT literate and willing to develop your skills. You will be committed to equality and diversity, to good customer service, and to achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable people.
How do we work?
The Social Care Assessor role within the Assessment and Review Team will be working a 5-day week on a staff rotation basis, over six days; Monday to Saturday, office hours. Saturday working attracts an enhanced rate. Currently staff are required to work on average one Saturday every 7 to 10 weeks, though this may be subject to change to meet the needs of the service.
The Council has adopted a flexible approach to meeting business needs which includes some flexibility around work hours and base. In the Assessment and Review Team currently staff are required to attend the office for 50% of the working week to enable better collaboration. For
