Senior Associate / Legal Director - Banking & Finance Edinburgh or Glasgow, Hybrid £68,500 to £85,500 + Bonus and Benefits We're working with a leading firm to add a Senior Associate or Legal Director to their highly respected Banking & Finance team. The team is one of the largest within Scotland. It's well established, very busy, and known for handling a broad mix of transactional and advisory banking work. About the Firm The firm has a strong reputational across the UK and is particularly well regarded for its finance work. Their banking team is ranked Band 1 and is involved in a wide variety of transactions for major banks, financial institutions, public bodies, funds and corporates. They act on real estate finance, leveraged finance, corporate lending, refinancing and more complex structured or cross-border matters. The team is sizeable, stable, and continues to grow because of consistent client demand. The working environment is collaborative, expectations are clear, and senior solicitors are given the space to run with work while still feeling supported. The team culture is one of the reasons people tend to stay. What They're Looking For The head of department requires additional support at the senior end and therefore requires someone with significant experience. They're open to considering candidates at Senior Associate or Legal Director level - they are also happy to discuss longer term progression paths to Legal Director / Partner. 6+ years PQE operating within a similar banking and finance role Experience across banking and finance transactions, ideally including real estate finance, leveraged finance and/or corporate funding Confidence drafting and negotiating loan and security documentation Experience running transactions and managing competing deadlines The ability to supervise junior solicitors and contribute to the wider team An interest in working closely with major institutional clients About the Role This is a senior hire created because the team is consistently busy and entering another period of growth. They are looking for someone who can slot into the senior end of the team and support on high-value work straight away. The work will include a mix of real estate finance, leveraged and corporate funding matters, alongside opportunities to get involved in more structured finance work depending on interest. There’s regular crossover with corporate, real estate and projects teams, so the work is varied and often multi-disciplinary. The role involves leading transactions, supervising juniors, and building relationships with long-term institutional clients. The firm is open about progression: the team is not top-heavy, and there is space at senior level for someone who wants to move towards Legal Director or strengthen their profile at that stage. Why This Role Might Appeal Because of the volume and quality of work coming through the team, senior solicitors get exposure to significant transactions and trusted relationships early on. There is room to grow into more responsibility, both in terms of client work and internal leadership. The team itself is known for being steady, with people staying long term.
