The Background and Role
An innovative organisation within the specialist defence-related industry is seeking a flexible and adaptable Manufacturing/Quality Inspector (Machined Parts). This role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of the Manufacturing and Engineering Departments. The successful candidate will work closely with and assist the Technical & Engineering Director. Given the nature of the work, candidates must be required to pass security vetting upon employment.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in Production/Manufacturing inspection. The role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong mechanical aptitude to ensure products meet the highest quality standards. A deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and a methodical approach to overseeing inspection processes are essential.
Primary Job Function
* Utilize key skills in the development, manufacture, testing, and support of the company’s projects.
* Ensure products meet customer requirements within tight timelines, adhering to the highest quality standards.
Key Skills
* Experience: Proven experience as a Manufacturing/Production Quality Inspector.
* Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of mechanical machinery, tooling, and precision measurement tools.
* CMM Programming: Knowledge of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programming.
* Drawings: Ability to read and interpret project and engineering drawings.
* Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Attention to Detail: Strong mechanical aptitude and mathematical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
* Communication: Strong communication abilities.
* Teamwork: Ability to work as part of a small, specialized team with flexibility and an open attitude.
* Time Management: Effective prioritization of tasks and personal time management.
* Independence: Ability to work unsupervised and prioritize personal time and activities.
Responsibilities
* Material Inspection: Inspect and approve incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
* In-Process Inspection: Inspect in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and communicating necessary adjustments to supervisors.
* Finished Product Approval: Approve finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products for re-work, and confirming re-work.
* Documentation: Document inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizing re-work and waste, and inputting data into the Quality database.
* Equipment Maintenance: Ensure measurement equipment is operational by following operating instructions and calibration requirements, and liaising with Purchasing and Engineering for repairs.
* Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
Experience
* Preferably 5+ years in an engineering/manufacturing environment.
Education/Qualifications Required
* Apprenticeship Trained
* Ideally: ONC/D in Manufacturing or City & Guilds in Mechanical and Production Engineering, or relevant Quality Inspection Qualifications.
