Role Objective
Our client, an innovative and fast-paced business in the dynamic energy industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance and Health and Safety Manager. The successful candidate will ensure that all company activities adhere to the National Electricity Registration Scheme standards and maintain a robust health and safety culture across all operations.
Experience
- NEBOSH Certification
- IOSH Certification
- Experience working on construction sites
- Driving License (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Health and Safety Management, or a related field
- Proven experience in a similar role within the electricity distribution or construction industry
- Strong knowledge of NERS regulations and standards
- In-depth understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Effective leadership and team management abilities
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Understand and ensure compliance with new Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments, H.S.E. Guidance Notes, and Codes of Practice.
- Advise Directors and Project Managers on safety, health, and welfare matters to ensure statutory compliance.
- Liaise with the HSE and Safety Advisor to promote a culture of safety.
- Prepare and update the Company’s Health and Safety Policy, ensuring it is communicated to all employees.
- Identify health and safety training needs and maintain training records.
- Ensure regular H&S training for all employees and that they have the requisite knowledge and training, including PPE usage.
- Ensure completion of Company display screen assessment forms.
- Record and report accidents, maintaining central records, and analysing to prevent re-occurrence.
- Ensure adequate numbers of qualified First Aiders.
- Monitor control measures and review method statements and risk assessments.
- Attend courses/seminars to accurately interpret legislation for implementation.
- Recommend control measures and advise on PPE standards.
- Conduct health and safety inspections and prepare reports.
- Investigate all accidents and near-miss incidents, recording findings.
- Advise Directors of all R.I.D.D.O.R. reportable incidents.
- Provide written work method instructions, outlining potential hazards and precautions.
- Ensure compliance with accident and near-miss reporting procedures.
- Ensure all employees and subcontractors are suitably trained and competent.
- Maintain and display Statutory Notices, Safety Policy, Insurance Certificate, and First Aider names.
- Provide new employees with a copy of the policy statement, induction training, and necessary PPE.
- Reprimand employees failing to discharge health and safety responsibilities.
- Set a personal example by wearing appropriate PPE and observing safety procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date forms required under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and related legislation.
- Maintain a file on health and safety regulations and directives.
- Consult employees on health and safety issues.
- Ensure employees are conversant with environmental management systems.
- Keep records of waste transferred or received for two years for non-hazardous waste and three years for hazardous waste consignment.
Subcontractor Management
- Review subcontractors’ performance on health and safety management systems, risk control, competence, and cooperation.
Compliance
- Maintain accreditations and obtain new ones.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of NERS standards.
- Ensure compliance with NERS requirements for electrical connections.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies to stay updated on NERS regulations and standards.
- Conduct audits and assessments to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement policies to ensure continuous NERS compliance.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the main contact for NERS-related matters with external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align compliance and health and safety objectives with business goals.
- Represent the company in industry meetings, forums, and events.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in compliance and health and safety performance.
- Lead or participate in initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.
Business Support
- Support the wider needs of the business as required.
