Our client is a well-established carpentry subcontractor based in Hertfordshire, their portfolio includes residential and commercial. Due to continued growth, they're seeking an Estimator to join their team.
Role Overview: As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor / Graduate Estimator, you will play an integral role in supporting the financial and contractual management of their projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to kick-start their career in the construction industry, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced professionals.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for carpentry packages on various projects, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
* Support the preparation and submission of tenders, including gathering and analyzing quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
* Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications to assist in pricing and cost planning.
* Assist with the administration of contracts, including monitoring variations, preparing payment applications, and managing subcontractor accounts.
* Participate in site visits to assess progress, measure works, and ensure that projects are delivered within budget.
* Support the identification and management of financial risks associated with projects.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Provide regular updates to senior management on project costs, budgets, and any financial issues.
* Stay up-to-date with industry trends, construction methods, and best practices, while seeking opportunities for professional development.
Qualifications:
* A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
* Eager to learn, proactive, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
