Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineering Manager to lead our Application Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing engineering teams, with proven expertise in product design and delivery, and will guide the team through a transition to a configure-to-order model. This role requires a leader who understands engineering processes and governance, and who can drive team development and effective customer engagement. Power electronics experience is beneficial but not essential, with a primary focus on product design and delivery.
This role offers the unique opportunity to shape and define the team, providing technical leadership and managing the delivery of multiple projects. Focused on designing cutting-edge products for Marine and Defence applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Coordination
Lead and coordinate an engineering team, ensuring effective use of expertise and fostering team development.
Provide strategic direction, guiding the team through a shift to a configure-to-order business model.
Promote collaboration within the team, focusing on delivering high-quality products on schedule and within budget.
Build and nurture the team's capabilities, supporting professional growth and creating a cohesive working environment.Product Design & Delivery
Oversee the design and execution of products, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and successful delivery of projects.
Ensure that product development processes are optimized and efficient, from initial concept to final execution, maintaining high standards of quality.
Promote modular design approaches to support customization in line with the configure-to-order model.Engineering Process & Governance
Implement strong engineering processes that align with governance standards and industry best practices.
Drive continuous improvements in engineering workflows, ensuring consistent, efficient delivery across the product range.
Utilize a sustainable "reduce, reuse, recycle" approach in product development, ensuring cost efficiency and standardization.Customer Engagement & Bid Management
Act as the technical lead for customer interactions, ensuring clear communication of solutions that meet customer requirements.
Coordinate bid activities with sales and product management, ensuring accurate technical inputs and alignment with customer needs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring smooth project execution and alignment throughout the lifecycle.Qualifications/Skills Required
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.Experience
Demonstrated experience leading and managing engineering teams, with a focus on product design and delivery.
A strong track record of applying engineering processes and governance to product development cycles.
Experience leading teams through complex product delivery challenges, balancing multiple priorities, and ensuring timely project completion.
Familiarity with power electronics is beneficial, but expertise in product design and delivery is essential.Skills
Exceptional leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a high-performing engineering team.
Strong understanding of engineering processes, product design, and governance, with a focus on delivering results.
Excellent project management skills, with experience coordinating multiple projects and customer engagements.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong customer relationships and managing technical discussions.Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience in leading a team through a transition to a configure-to-order model or similar business transformation.
