Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist looking to progress to the next step to become a Band 6 Occupational therapist in Stroke & Neurology. A B5 to Band 6 development post will also be considered for the right applicant. We will provide the individual with a 6-month training programme, provided by experienced stroke & neuro-therapists with the focus on developing clinical and leadership skills for the successful candidate to make the transition from a Band 5 to a Band 6 Occupational therapist. You will work through a set of specific competencies that will be required to be signed off prior to obtaining the band 6 post.

The post will predominantly be based at Good Hope's Early Supported Discharge team for treatment of stroke and neurological patients in the community. In addition there will be an opportunity to gain valuable experience on the stroke unit.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

We are looking for an experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist with an interest in Stroke & Neurology. It is essential they have good clinical skills, good communication and interpersonal skills. The post-holder must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have good organisational and time management skills, problem solving skills and an enthusiasm for service development.

The Band 6 OT will manage a clinical caseload and will undertake a lead role in assessing, treating and discharge planning ESD stroke and neurological patients. The post holder will work closely with the MDT on the Acute Stroke Unit and support other Occupational therapy teams working with stroke & neurology patients at GHH. You will join an established stroke & neurology therapy team to provide support your development and accomplishment of Band 6 OT competencies.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential

Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy.

Current registration with Health Professions Council.

A levels or equivalent qualification

Good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English grade C and above.

Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.

Evidence of leadership training

Experience
Essential

Demonstrates comprehensive clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality.

Significant experience of working in an acute hospital with elderly and frail elderly, neurological and musculo-skeletal conditions and will include experience in discharge planning.

Experience of team/service development.

Experience of supporting and supervision of Band 5 Occupational therapists, student OTs and assistants.

A specialist knowledge across a range of therapy practices, routine and non-routine, requiring expertise within the field of therapy.

Good understanding of working in an acute trust.

Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational Therapy.
