Overview of the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic business that is experiencing exceptional growth. This senior role will sit across our architectural and structural metalwork divisions of the business and report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
As a highly organised individual, the Design Coordinator will manage all information in terms of design, coordinate the design process and control the information from and for the Client and the Consultants for architectural and structural metalwork items.
The Design Coordinator will ensure that all the information issued by the Consultant is suitable and complies with the order from an engineering point of view. They will manage production of Stage 5 design and details, and coordinate information flow regarding all elements under the Elite Metal Group (EMG) remit. This will involve taking the client’s stage 3 or 4 design information and progressing those designs, either internally within EMG through the contracting of EMG suppliers, up to the fabrication/manufacturing and installation on site.
Key Responsibilities:
Know and understand the EMG contract and scope of works, in particular with respect to design and design responsibilities.
* Manage all aspects of the EMG design production including but not limited to the following:
* Any design responsibilities within EMG Subcontractor’s packages
* Management of Subcontract Design and Detailers
* Participate in Architectural Coordination workshop meetings identifying requirements and changes while guiding the design.
* Coordinating above with Commercial and Procurement Team and Site teams including for example, ensuring project change is identified, that critical works build sequences and checks are communicated and understood.
* Reviewing EMG programme and ensuring that EMG design deliverables, both those delivered internally and by our supply chain, are produced in line with programme requirements.
* Ensuring that the design meets the requirements of the specification and any applicable standards identified therein especially the finishing and aesthetical expectation of the client.
* This will often involve chasing out required information from either contracted designers/suppliers, or the client’s design team.
* Undertaking final review of completed design prior to submission to ensure the design team have implemented the requirements of the design correctly and incorporated any agreed changes in the design that were identified during the design development and coordination process.
* To support, understand and advise the client as to the requirements and his/her obligations in the development of a building design.
* A willingness and ability to develop junior or inexperienced members of the team, providing guidance, mentorship and support through their ongoing development.
* Ability to hold regular value engineering reviews across projects with the commercial lead.
Skills:
Formal qualification in Design/Engineering/Project Management or related field.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and external partners.
Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with clients and colleagues.
Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
Good commercial awareness and forecasting ability.
Able to drive projects through to a high standard through effective team management.
Knowledge:
Good knowledge in the coordinating of architects, engineers, contractors and clients.
Strong understanding of the construction process and project management.
Some knowledge of architectural metalwork systems, in particular staircases and balustrades.
Some knowledge of timber and glass fitting works.
Experience:
Track record of operating on projects involving the coordination and interfacing of multiple different products.
3-5 years’ experience in similar roles.
Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements.
Location:
This is a predominantly office-based role at our Perivale Head Quarters in west London with visits/meetings to sites across London.
Typical hours of work will be 8am until 5pm Monday to Friday.
