Principal Architect – Advertising Systems


Location: London (Hybrid: Tuesdays and Thursdays in-office)


About the Role


We've partnered with a leading broadcasting organisation, who are looking for a Principal Architect to lead the re-architecture of their advertising systems, transforming their approach to audience-targeted advertising. This is a strategic role requiring someone who can design next-generation ad tech systems that scale, drive revenue, and align with our commercial goals.


Key Responsibilities


  • Architect Future-Ready Systems: Redesign current advertising platforms for enhanced targeting, scalability, and performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage closely with HR, product managers, QA, and engineering leaders to ensure alignment and effective delivery.
  • Drive Design Processes: Lead scrum teams in design decisions, providing a long-term architectural view and clear design handovers.
  • Strategic Visioning: Plan a documented roadmap for system improvements over 3, 6, and 12 months, anticipating future business needs.


What You’ll Bring


  • Architectural Expertise: Proven experience designing and running mission-critical, revenue-generating systems in production.
  • Business Insight: Strong grasp of commercial principles (total cost of ownership, ROI) and ability to align technology with business outcomes.
  • Technical Depth: Deep understanding of software and data engineering; experience in ad tech or a related field is beneficial but not required.
  • Vision and Leadership: Ability to communicate long-term technical strategy and inspire cross-team alignment.
