Responsible for: Delivery of a culturally competent sexual health, sexuality and HIV counselling service to clients within Central West London; with an emphasis on working with Black, Brown and Global Majority Communities

Job Location: Turning Point Office, 31 Wardour Street, London W1D 6PN; and across multiple sites within the three boroughs

Hours: 22.5 hours (3 days) per week

Exact timings to be discussed – the 3 days will be taken during weekdays Mon-Fri, with one evening per week)

              15 days annual leave entitlement per year (pro-rated to length of contract)

Terms: Fixed-term contract until 31st March 2027

              The post will be offered with a 3-month probationary period

 

Background:

In partnership with Turning Point, METRO, and London Friend, Naz is delivering a new model of sexual health support throughout three London boroughs (Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster). Naz has a particular expertise working with Black, Asian and Global Majority communities in London.

 

Our evidence-based interventions are designed to enable those with the greatest risk of poor sexual health outcomes to have fulfilling sexual lives, understand how to access the right local service and ultimately to support better physical, mental and sexual health outcomes.

 

Job purpose:

To deliver a high impact, professional and culturally competent sexual health, sexuality and HIV counselling service to clients in 3 London boroughs – Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster

 

You will be referred clients from the SASH counselling manager who will complete the clinical assessment. You will be tasked with delivering solution-focused counselling for up to 12 sessions. As the service grows there may be additional duties of conducting clinical assessments and/ or management of volunteer counsellors within the programme.

Main responsibilities of post:

Providing the service

1) Ensure provision of solution-focussed counselling sessions for up to 12 sessions

 

2) To oversee a full and complex clinical caseload

 

3) To provide one evening of counselling work per week within the SASH project

 

4) To undergo regular external clinical supervision

 

Internal

5) To maintain clients’ and referral records and use an evaluation system to monitor quality of clinical work; provide reports to management and funders

 

6) To ensure confidential maintenance of client files

 

7) To take an active role in staff meetings and supervision

 

8) To carry out the duties of the post with due regard to Naz’s policies such as Equal Opportunities Policy, child protection and adult safeguarding, data protection and health and safety

 

9) To carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by your line manager

 

Learning

10) Keep up to date on issues related to working with clients on sexual health, sexuality and mental wellbeing as well as innovative interventions and methodologies

 

11) Attending and actively participating in SASH focus groups – these are staff-led groups focussing on particular areas of work

 

12) To deliver presentations around subjects related to the SASH programme; and to deliver/facilitate group work

1) Relevant counselling / psychotherapy qualification

2) UKCP or BACP registered membership

3) Commitment to having an enhanced DBS check (or have current check)

4) CBT certification / qualification

5) Positively identify as having Black, Asian or Global Majority Ethnicity, or dual/multiple heritage including this (Exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1)

6) Ability to work one evening a week

7) Good understanding of the issues faced by Black, Asian and Global Majority people affected by sexual health, sexuality and HIV issues

8) Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite, accessing databases, email and calendar management, and using the internet

9) Understanding of the issues relating to confidentiality in a sexual health organisation

10) Knowledge of difficulties and issues around antiretroviral treatments for people living with HIV

11) Training in cross-cultural or inter-cultural counselling

12) Ability to speak at least one Black, Asian or Global majority language besides English

13) At least 3 years’ experience of providing counselling / psychotherapy
