An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chartered Bridge Engineer to join a local authority in South Yorkshire. You will be responsible for managing and leading a team of 4 engineers, overseeing the design, maintenance, and inspection of bridges and other highway structures.
The main duties of the Chartered Bridge Engineer are:
Lead, manage, and mentor a team of 4 engineers in the design, inspection, and maintenance of bridges and other structures within the local authority area.
Oversee bridge inspections, structural assessments, and maintenance programs, ensuring all work complies with relevant regulations and safety standards.
Provide technical guidance and leadership on bridge design, assessment, and maintenance, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and other council departments, to ensure effective collaboration and delivery of projects.
Manage the planning and prioritization of work programs, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with the council's strategic objectives.
Prepare reports, technical documents, and presentations for senior management, elected members, and external stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and industry best practices in bridge engineering.
Keep up to date with the latest developments in bridge engineering, implementing innovations where appropriate.
About You:
Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a recognized professional body such as ICE or IStructE.
Extensive experience in bridge design, inspection, and maintenance, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience leading a team of engineers.
Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and codes of practice in bridge engineering.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering them on time and within budget.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Proficiency in the use of relevant design and analysis software.
