Our work spans economic, social and environmental impacts, cost–benefit analysis, policy evaluation, business surveys, and the development of new data-driven products that shape national debates. As an Economic Surveys & Data Innovation Analyst, you will play a central role in strengthening CBI Economics’ analytical and survey capabilities. You will lead the design, delivery, and analysis of bespoke client surveys, working closely with our Economic Surveys & Data team to ensure high-quality insights and smooth operations. Alongside survey delivery, you will apply coding and data skills to build tools, automate workflows, develop dashboards, and contribute to new data products that enhance our consultancy offer. This is a hands-on, developmental role where you will work alongside economists, survey specialists, and data experts to deliver impactful analysis for clients and support the growth of CBIE’s data innovation portfolio. You will collaborate with the Economic Intelligence team, who provide expert macroeconomic insight, and with project teams across CBI Economics to translate data into actionable, compelling findings. The role is based in our London office, reporting to the CBI Economics Manager, with a dotted line into the Surveys & Data team. It is offered on an 18-month fixed-term contract at pay band 6 (£38,000 - £42,000 per annum) . Key Responsibilities: 1. CBI Economics survey design and delivery Lead on the coordination of CBIE surveys, liaising with the wider Survey team to align scheduling and avoid overlap with core CBI surveys. Work with CBIE project teams and clients to design and draft surveys that deliver high-quality insights and follow best practice. Use SurveyMonkey and the CBI CRM and contact databases to build bespoke samples and surveys. Manage survey distribution and marketing campaigns through the CBI’s marketing platform (Spotler), drafting clear and engaging survey communications. Monitor response rates and survey fatigue, coordinating with internal teams to ensure quality and consistency. Support survey panel recruitment and maintenance, helping to develop and sustain representative business panels. 2. Data management, analysis and visualisation Process, clean and validate survey data to ensure accuracy, consistency and usability across CBIE projects. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to extract insights, trends and key findings from survey data. Develop visualisations and dashboards (e.g. in Power BI) for client outputs, internal reporting, and business development. Build and automate elements of the data workflow using R, Python, Stata or JavaScript (e.g. for data manipulation, automated reporting or interactive visualisations), improving efficiency and reproducibility. 3. Analytical and product development support Collaborate with CBIE economists to build and test data-driven models (e.g. cost-benefit frameworks, scenario tools, or economic dashboards). Contribute to the design and development of new CBIE data products, using survey and secondary data to create indicators, visual tools, or interactive applications. Apply coding and analytical skills (including R, Python, Stata or JavaScript) to support data integration, modelling, and automation across CBIE projects. Support ad-hoc analysis, reporting, and data management requests across CBIE and the wider Economic Surveys & Data team. Knowledge & Experience What an individual must know or understand to be able to fulfil the role’s requirements: Essential Degree (or equivalent) in economics, data science, statistics, or another analytical discipline. Experience working with survey data or similar datasets requiring cleaning, transformation, and analysis. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify patterns and insights from data. Proficiency in R, Python or Stata , including experience with data manipulation, analysis, and visualisation. Basic knowledge of JavaScript or a strong willingness to upskill quickly , particularly for interactive data visualisation or simple web-based tools. Some experience with Power BI or Tableau, and the ability to learn quickly. High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with SurveyMonkey. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams and with clients. Attention to detail and strong data quality assurance skills. Eagerness to learn and apply new methods, tools, and processes. Desirable Experience or interest in marketing and CRM systems (e.g. Spotler, Salesforce). Knowledge of data visualisation and dashboarding principles, including experience with tools or libraries such as Power BI, D3.js or other JavaScript-based visualisation frameworks. Understanding of economic and policy analysis and interest in business, public policy, or applied economics. Experience with survey recruitment or online panel management. Personal attributes Curious, analytical and proactive, with a strong desire to solve problems using data. Balances precision with creativity in communication and analysis. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based environment. Interested in applying data skills to real-world business and policy challenges.
