Our client is seeking an experienced PLC Engineer to join its operations team, tasked with enhancing the efficiency and performance of its highly automated warehouses and fulfilment centres across Europe. This is a field-based role that involves extensive travel across various UK sites, providing a unique opportunity to work directly with cutting-edge robotic and automation systems in one of the world's leading e-commerce companies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the deployment and integration of PLC updates across multiple warehouses and fulfilment centres. Ensure seamless integration with existing systems to maintain operational continuity.
  • Collaborate with the operations and engineering teams to review, develop, and improve standard operating procedures. Establish effective performance metrics and feedback mechanisms to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Work closely with local operations teams and Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering (RME) personnel to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues related to robotic and automation systems. Use analytical and problem-solving skills to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Utilize your expertise in PLC programming and automation to provide recommendations on system upgrades and improvements. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance system performance and implementing preventive maintenance strategies.


Requirements:

  • A strong technical understanding of robotic and automation systems, particularly in a high-speed, high-volume environment like warehousing or manufacturing. Familiarity with safety standards, risk assessments, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in programming, updating, and maintaining PLCs in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with major PLC brands such as Siemens or Allen-Bradley
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and maintenance staff. Ability to translate technical information into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to spend extended periods at different locations to meet operational demands.
  • Adaptability to work in dynamic environments with changing priorities. Ability to respond quickly to urgent technical issues and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
