Scope and Purpose:
Work safely and effectively across the yard, covering all required tasks such as weighing vehicles on the weighbridge, inspecting and verifying the quality and grade of scrap and operating heavy machinery.
Key Accountabilities:
Weigh scrap lorries in/out via the weighbridge, ensuring all documentation and measurements are accurate.
Tip and load lorries in line with safety procedures.
Record and maintain accurate records related to incoming and outgoing loads and machine usages/performance.
Ensure vehicles, drivers and contractors strictly adhere to site rules, have correct PPE and maintain safe working practices at all times.
Inspect and grade all scrap, and apply deductions in an objective and professional manner in line with criteria.
Manually or use machines to; sort and segregate the different scrap grades and remove hazardous materials.
Identify and segregate non-ferrous/premium ferrous metal to maximize profits.
Operate machines and equipment safely and in accordance with instructions (grab, tele handler, shear, excavator, material handler etc.).
Perform routine checks and inspections on machinery and report any failures, breakdowns or damage.
Use systems such as SAP and radiation detections, and liaise with IT/external companies to resolve any faults.
Ensure the yard is secure and that assets are protected.
Complete basic maintenance on plant machinery when required such as greasing, fueling etc.
Ensure stockpiles are managed safety and correctly whilst optimising the height and pile capacity.
Communicate with other personnel to coordinate work activities and ensure that work is performed efficiently and safely.
Participate in meetings ensuring sure safety, operations and any other issues are raised and discussed.
Ensure the daily work plan is followed and that agreed output tonnes are achieved.
Assist with implementing procedures related to Scrap Processing Operations.
Use ProSafety software to log all hazards, near misses and accidents.
Comply with all safety and environmental policies.
Be flexible with regards to working hours and break times in order to provide the service required.
Be flexible in travelling to any other scrap yards for learning, development and benchmark purposes as well as to covering for holidays, sickness, absenteeism if needed.

The Person:
Experience following health and safety procedures, ideally within an industrial environment.
Experience operating heavy machinery preferred.
Ability to solve problems, work independently and be self-motivated.
Confident using IT systems, for example SAP.
Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal desirable.
Sense of accountability for protecting the assets.
Work will be mainly based outdoors so flexibility to work in all types of weather is essential.
Valid driving licence required.
