Job Title: Java Developer (Remote)

Location: Hybrid - 1/2 days per week onsite in Stockport (Company HQ in Stockport, Cheshire)

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for building and enhancing critical systems that support core operations and processes. This role is pivotal in driving our transition towards modern architectures and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance Java-based applications and services.
  • Work with legacy Java systems (Java 8, Servlets, JSPs) and integrate new technologies like Spring Data JDBC.
  • Participate in the modernisation of systems to operate in AWS environments, utilizing tools such as Docker, ECS, Fargate, and Aurora RDS.
  • Maintain and optimize existing codebases and database systems, including inline SQL and Postgres.
  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams to improve development practices and promote knowledge sharing.

Technology Stack:

  • Java 8, Pre-Spring frameworks, Servlets, JSPs, and custom 3rd party libraries
  • Spring Data JDBC, JavaScript, client-server communications
  • AWS (ECS, Fargate, Aurora RDS/Postgres, Lambda, API Gateway), Docker, React, Node.js

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Java Developer with a strong understanding of Java 8 and associated web technologies.
  • Experience in working with SQL databases and crafting/executing SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with AWS, containerization (Docker), and modern DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies (JavaScript, React) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
