About the job
A new opportunity has arisen for the position of CNC Miller – CAD/CAM Programmer. The role will be responsible for creating instructions for computers to develop CNC machines and tools.
For this role you must have a strong understanding of machining processes and the ability to utilise CAD/CAM tools to do off-line programming. You will be able to work with precision and efficiency and be able to identify the best sequence of operations to ensure quality and productivity.

Our client Carr’s Engineering designs, manufactures, and services bespoke equipment, vessels, precision components and remote handling systems alongside providing specialist engineering services in the Nuclear, Defence, Oil & Gas, Motorsport, Pharmaceutical and Renewable industries. They have over 120 years of experience and provide industry leading services to their portfolio of long-standing customers.
Location: Chirton Engineering, North Shields, NE29 7SW
Hours of Work: Hours on work Monday to Thursday 37 hours per week
Salary: £40,404.00 per annum
Key responsibilities
* To create CAD/CAM programs for machinists.
* To review 3D CAD design/models.
* To develop optimised cutting strategies utilising the CAM package.
* To communicate with the machinists who will be using the programs on the shopfloor.
* To check the completed programs by running simulations or tests.
* To assist the setting up and operating of CNC machines by preparing the machine for the specific task, program the machine, and oversee the operation.
* To monitor and adjust the machine settings, ensuring that the machine is working at optimal efficiency and quality. This may involve adjusting speed, feed, coolant flow, and other settings.
* To inspect the finished products for accuracy and quality and ensure it meets the required specifications and quality standards.
* To identify and fix any problems with the machine, such as mechanical issues or programming errors.
* To collaborate with engineers to optimize manufacturing processes by working closely with machinists to improve the manufacturing process, which can include optimising machine settings, improving tooling, and implementing new machining strategies.
* To actively, support continuous improvement activities.
What you need for the role.
* Have a deep understanding of CAD/CAM, machining processes, problem-solving skills, continuous learning, and collaboration with other professionals.
* The ability to work with different materials.
* Familiar with programming of controllers (Siemens, Fanuc. Mazatrol)
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
* High level of attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
