We are working with a thriving and inclusive secondary school situated in the heart of Southwark. They are currently seeking a passionate and experienced individual to lead their Religious Education department.
Role Overview:
As the Head of Religious Education, you will be responsible for leading and developing the RE curriculum, ensuring it is engaging, inclusive, and reflective of the diverse student body. You will inspire both students and staff, promoting an understanding and appreciation of various religious traditions and ethical viewpoints. Your leadership will be pivotal in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead and manage the RE department, including staff development and performance management.
· Develop and implement a dynamic and inclusive RE curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
· Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore and respect different beliefs and values.
· Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in RE, implementing strategies for improvement where necessary.
· Coordinate with other departments to support cross-curricular initiatives and events.
· Engage with parents, carers, and the wider community to promote the importance of religious education.
· Ensure compliance with national curriculum standards and examination board requirements.
· Manage the department budget effectively to ensure resources are used efficiently.
Person Specification:
· Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree.
· Proven experience in teaching Religious Education at the secondary school level.
· Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
· Excellent knowledge of the RE curriculum and current educational best practices.
· Commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities in education.
· Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to whole-school initiatives.
· Dedication to continuous professional development and willingness to engage in further training.
