GROUP : Trade Marks

TERM : Permanent

HOURS : Full-time, 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch. A flexible approach to working hours is a must, overtime may be required at busy times.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY


We are seeking a junior trademark paralegal to join our renowned trade marks team at Sheridans.


This vacancy would be suitable for individuals who are interested in trade marks and IP, have undertaken a law degree or graduate diploma in law and are seeking their first role within the legal profession or those who have already commenced their career in an entry level Trade marks position.


RESPONSIBILITIES


To provide support to include:


  • To assist in the management of the IP portfolio of Sheridans’ clients, including trade marks, copyright, designs and domain names
  • To maintain and update Sheridans’ central database of trade mark registrations/pending applications and registered designs (and to supervise trade mark administrator/s regarding the same)
  • To assist in adherence to all national and foreign trade mark deadlines
  • Reviewing, preparing, drafting and sending out search reports and watch notice reports to the clients
  • Assisting with drafting trade mark applications
  • Assisting with drafting design applications
  • Assisting with preparing and filing trade mark oppositions and cancellation actions
  • Assisting with preparing draft responses to registry objections
  • Liaising with overseas agents and requesting frequent status updates
  • Amending documents
  • Preparing recordal forms such as changes of name, address, representative
  • Supporting the wider team through:
  • Processing and docketing all incoming registry post/correspondence
  • Preparing and filing trade mark applications and renewals
  • Preparing and filing design applications
  • Preparing cost estimates
  • Supporting fee earners to undertake portfolio audits
  • Reporting of filing receipts, advertisements, registration and renewal certificates
  • Assisting with trade mark billing and co-ordination
  • Producing client care letters and following up on due diligence for new clients


The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Firm and the overall business needs.


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:


Skills & experience

  • Demonstrated interest within trade marks and IP and ideally experience of a busy trade mark department, via work experience or another role post-education
  • Awareness of WebTMS/IPPO is preferred;
  • Ability to be pragmatic, meet deadlines and work closely with all members of the team;
  • Ability to work directly with clients;
  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with senior internal stakeholders
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a professional approach, with an excellent customer service ethic
  • Self-starting approach, taking ownership of matters, tasks and projects and the ability to work under own initiative and motivation
  • Comfortable sharing knowledge with other team members, upskilling and supporting other and more junior team members when necessary
  • Commitment to being a collaborative team player and fostering an attitude that promotes comradery, creativity and innovation
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade and influence colleagues and clients at all levels
  • Ability to remain organised, prioritise and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times
  • Flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times


Qualifications

  • Accomplished academic background – i.e. strong GCSE and A-Level results and either a Bachelor of Law degree or a graduate diploma in law
  • Desire to study towards the trade mark CITMA qualification (Queen Mary Course or LPC – ideally) and Nottingham Course (desired but non-essential);
