Our client is a prominent international R&D organization looking to bring on board an accomplished Senior Mechanical Engineer to augment their UK team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will assume the responsibility of overseeing intricate processes involved in the design and full product life cycle management of bespoke high-tech subsystems.
Your expertise in precision CNC machined and sheet metal parts design, tolerance analysis, testing, will make you a valuable mechanical R&D team leader.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and manufacturing metal sheet components, preferably an optics background in low-volume high-value manufacturing environments. Besides, ideally, you will possess small team-leading skills.
Responsibilities:nLead the design and development of precion, and mechanical sheet metal parts, ensuring adherence to engineering principles and manufacturing best practices.nUtilize CAD/ Solidworks systems to create detailed drawings and specifications for sheet metal components.nLiaise with teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.nConduct tolerance analysis to ensure that sheet metal parts meet required specifications and performance criteria.nOversee the fabrication and testing of sheet metal components, providing technical guidance and support.nContinuously evaluate and improve manufacturing processes to enhance product quality.nMentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.
Requirements:nBachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fieldn8+ years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing, focusing on precision CNC machined/ sheet metal parts.nProficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and experience with sheet metal design toolsnStrong understanding of machining processes and their impact on sheet metal part designnExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot complex engineering challengesnEffective communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teamsnExperience with quality management systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001).nAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:nKnowledge of finite element analysis (FEA); structural analysis of sheet metal componentsnFamiliarity with industry-specific standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5 for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)nPrevious experience in a leadership or supervisory role
