Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services is currently recruiting for a Project Manager to work for Balfour Beatty.

The project is for the construction of three tunnels under the seabed that will supply the two reactors at Hinkley Point C with cooling water and then discharge it back into the Bristol Channel.


The Role:

You will be responsible for the construction of SCL (sprayed concrete lining) tunnels to connect the existing TBM tunnels under the Bristol Channel with the new intake and outlet shafts, as part of the water intake and outlet structures for the new nuclear power station.

This involves the development and procurement of significant bespoke/custom plant equipment and very significant temporary works to enable new connection tunnels to be undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the Construction Director (Marine) to coordinate the integration of shaft liner secondary lining into the fabrication programme for the liner.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high levels of engineering control and appropriate records are maintained during the construction, with emphasis on defect avoidance and zero defects at completion to ensure Nuclear Safety.
  • Report progress and performance of the integration activities in regular management team meetings.
  • Review contractual and technical information and ensure that any ambiguities or shortcomings are identified and resolved.
  • Support the team to develop construction methodology, SSHEQ procedures, RAMS, ITP’s, and programmes.
  • Obtain suitable resources (Labour, Subcontractors, Plant and Materials) to execute the work in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with all relevant SSHEQ, contractual and programme requirements.
  • Identify any problem areas, agreeing corrective actions with relevant stakeholders and the Construction Director (Marine). Ensure their implementation.
  • Ensure that complete and accurate records of the Works are kept.
  • Develop programmes and forecast budgets, assess actual programme and productivity achieved and review weekly, acting where appropriate and reporting any changes.
  • Work closely with the rest of the team to promote effective teamwork and coordination.
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc reports as requested by senior management.
  • Comply and adhere to all matters pertaining to Quality, Safety & Health and Environment related to the job scope and workplace as required by the Company and the Client.


Key Skills and experience required:

  • Strong relevant professional experience as a Project Manager on Civil projects
  • Civil Engineering or Construction Management qualification to ONC/HNC/Degree level
  • Must hold a valid suitable grade of CSCS card.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body is ideal but not essential.
  • Managerially and technically proficient with a good understanding of other engineering disciplines and have the professional credibility to engage and inspire others.
  • You should have a desire to continuously pursue innovation and development.


Desirable experience:

  • Experience in Mining projects would be ideal, though not essential
