What does the role look like?
This role supports production in the Machining area. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining standards and processes to ensure that all products meet or exceed customer and regulatory requirements. In addition to technical expertise, the Quality Engineer must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify trends and root causes.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
* Collaborate with manufacturing to improve operational performance.
* Provide first-line response (RTPR) for line-side quality concerns.
* Support Quality Clinic investigations, including product disposition.
* Improve internal FPY and SRR within the value stream.
* Establish and support quality policies and procedures throughout the business to ensure consistent high-class performance in all areas.
* Ensure the identification and control of all non-conforming products.
* Develop, promote, and lead continuous improvement activities.
* Lead and participate in quality system and process audits within Collins as needed.
* As part of a cross-functional team following the APQP process, influence the design, supply chain, and build process to ensure the required quality standard is achieved consistently.
* Develop and monitor production line and business unit performance metrics, initiating improvement plans when appropriate.
* Lead and participate in supplier and in-house improvement events.
* Take initiative and seek results in a structured manner.
* Drive a Zero Defect Culture using standard tools and processes.
What will you bring to the role?
Essential skills:
* Thorough understanding of AS9100/ISO9001 requirements and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
* 2-5 years of experience with QMS, quality requirements, and contractual flow downs.
* Experienced in Root Cause and Corrective Action (8D process) and Lean practices.
Desirable skills:
* Proficient in problem-solving using the quality toolbox, measurement, analysis, and continuous improvement tools.
* Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Good understanding of the APQP process and Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt).
* Experienced in conducting audits (internal/customer).
* Previous experience in a machine shop or similar environment.
* Clear communication skills and high-level reporting and data analysis capabilities.
* Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and project management experience.
* Effective in high-pressure environments with the ability to motivate and hold stakeholders accountable.
* Commitment and resilience to achieve ‘Best in Class’ results.
