PRISON HEAD OF FUNCTION
HMP Rye Hill
£55,244.00 per annum, Full Time
Excellent Company benefits including Contributory Pension
Rarely does an opportunity to make your mark and further your career come up like this.
About Us
Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) successfully manages four prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.
HMP Rye Hill is situated in Willoughby, near Rugby, Warwickshire and is a category B training prison acting as a national resource for sentenced male adults who have been convicted of a current or previous sex offence(s).
About the Role
We are looking for a Head of Function to join our senior management team at HMP Rye Hill to provide effective management of the relevant functional department and activities in line with customer and contractual requirements whilst help create and embed our culture and values.
As a Head of Function, it is important that you have substantial and current management experience, ideally within a custodial environment although not essential; and have the ability to thrive in a dynamic and challenging setting.
You will be managing a small team of direct reports responsible for delivering the day-to-day operation of the prison.
Some of the key responsibilities for this role are;
Manage the effective running of all relevant departments within the function
Manage contract deliverables and key performance indicators to ensure compliance and cost-effective delivery of services
To deliver and develop functional business plan
To ensure that all audits/assurance statements relevant to your functional area are achieved
To work collaboratively with other functional managers to ensure that the prison delivers to maximum capacity
To ensure management of sickness absence, TOIL and achieving annual leave and training targets
To ensure all PDRs are completed on time and are subject to an effective quality assurance process
To ensure that all direct reports have a bi-monthly Bi-Lat Meeting and that these are conducted throughout the function
To deliver a fair, decent and challenging regime for prisoners which maximises the opportunities for reducing risk and preventing re-offending
To respond thoroughly and within time parameters to all prisoner applications, complaints and grievances
To actively promote the safety and decency agenda with staff and prisoners
To promote the concept of community inclusion, ensuring that all equality and diversity standards are maintained at all times
Adjudicate prisoners in line with prison service standards to ensure hearings are conducted fairly, justly and impartially.
Manage and control the relevant budgets to meet financial parameters.
Coach and support employees to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures and contractual requirements are met.
Perform the role of Duty Director, as and when required, in accordance with security instructions and relevant standards to ensure that the operation runs effectively, including monitoring effective ACCT and Violence Reduction systems to minimise suicides, self-harm and bullying within the prison
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
About you
The role requires working with a wide range of stakeholders in a high-profile environment and it is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios.
It is essential that you are a dynamic and engaging individual who shares our ethics and values to deliver a first-class service for Prisoners, employees and the customer.
The successful candidate needs to be resilient, innovative, passionate and shares the Prison Directors vision of HMP Rye Hill and embed best practice. A leader who develops transparent and collaborative ways of working to engender openness, trust and inclusion.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference. You will motivate, inspire and lead your team to success, despite the significant challenges of managing a complex environment.

We actively encourage applications from all backgrounds and are a fully inclusive employer who aims to support all employees to be their true selves.
