Principal Acoustic Engineer If you care about sound quality, then this one is for you. This role sits at the heart of developing next generation communication devices used in some of the most demanding, high-noise environments imaginable. Your expertise will directly shape products relied upon for critical, real-world missions where clarity isn’t just nice to have, it’s essential. You will join a small, skilled team following Agile principles with the autonomy to explore, iterate and deliver bringing a mix of technical challenges and creative problem-solving. What you will be doing: Working closely with hardware, software, and mechanical teams, you will take the lead on acoustic design from modelling and tuning right through to validation and production. Expect to: Design, model and optimise complete acoustic paths for handheld communication devices. Implement and fine-tune DSP algorithms including noise suppression, AEC, AGC, EQ, and compression. Test and validate using HATS, anechoic chambers and real-world simulations. Collaborate across disciplines, ensuring acoustic components integrate seamlessly into compact enclosures. Work with global suppliers to source and qualify transducers and materials. Troubleshoot and refine audio performance from prototype to volume production. What do we need from you?: A degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or similar. 5+ years’ experience in audio product development (ideally handheld or portable devices). Deep understanding of electro-acoustics (mics, speakers, enclosures). Experience with simulation and measurement tools (COMSOL, FEA, Audio Precision, etc). Proficiency in at least one relevant programming/scripting language (e.g., MATLAB, Python) for data analysis and prototyping. SC clearance will be required for this role. It will be an added bonus, if you have worked on two-way radios, embedded DSP, or understand RF/EMI audio integration challenges. What can you expect in return?: Salary in the region of £60,000 - £80,000, dependent on experience.
