As a Senior Lecturer, you will assume additional responsibilities and play a crucial role in enhancing the academic and professional environment. In addition to the duties outlined for a Lecturer, you will:
Provide leadership in the curriculum area, guiding and mentoring colleagues to ensure the highest standards in teaching and learning.
Collaborate with the Head of Academics or the Dean in leading initiatives for curriculum development and improvement.
Programme Development and Oversight:nTake a lead role in the development, management, and review of academic programmes within the curriculum area.nAssess and oversee the work of colleagues, offering guidance to enhance the quality of provision.
Research and Professional Development:nEngage in advanced research activities, contributing to the academic profile of ESL and staying at the forefront of developments in the field.nActively participate in university/ESL research programs, fostering a culture of research and innovation.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:nPlay a pivotal role in the continuous improvement of teaching and learning standards, implementing, and monitoring the self-assessment process.nContribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement strategies.
External Engagement and Partnerships:
Strengthen links with external stakeholders, industry partners, and employers to enhance the student experience and foster collaborative initiatives.nRepresent ESL at external forums, contributing to the institution's reputation and standing.nProvide high-quality teaching and learning across a range of programs within a Higher Education setting, with a focus on Foundation year in your discipline.nTutor students, offering tailored support to help them achieve their academic goals and progress positively.nContribute actively to the development and continual improvement of courses, collaborating effectively with both staff and students.nParticipate in the creation of module/unit-specific Scheme of Work.nDevelop module materials for each of the modules being undertaken.nProvide/Deliver/Facilitate subject-specific sessions in line with the Learning Outcomes and syllabuses of modules.nDeploy assessments appropriately as outlined by the assessment team.nEstablish measures to understand the learning needs of students on their modules.nSupport students with timely formative feedback as prescribed by each of the program specifications.nMark and provide summative feedback within the prescribed deadline set by the Assessment Team.nEnsure compliance with the expectations of the Programme Specification of respective Awarding Bodies and Universities under which modules are being taught.nProduce appropriate module/unit reports.nDemonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.nContribute to the School’s Research Department.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
Advanced Qualifications and Recognition: Hold a doctoral qualification in a relevant subject area. (Senior Lecturer Only).n4 years' experience in teaching at HE level in the UK (Senior Lecturer).nMaster’s degree in a relevant subject area (Min requirement for Lecturer).nPrevious lecturing experience for similar courses at the Higher Education level.nProficiency in utilising Blackboard/VLEs, MS Teams, and Zoom.nPhD in relevant a field (Senior Lecturer only).nNative speaker of English or, if not, have current IELTS 7.5 Academic Certification.nDemonstrable ability to prepare and oversee implementation of programme development plans and assess colleagues’ work.nThe ability to communicate with senior education professionals.nThe ability to build and maintain effective teacher/learner relationships with students.
Desirable
Possess a teaching qualification such as FHEA or PGCHE, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.nA highly developed understanding of the demands of maintaining good cross-cultural, interpersonal, and relationships.nHigh-level communication and presentation skills.
