The Role

Southwark Music seeks excellent music tutors for a range of teaching roles in Southwark primary schools and at the Southwark Music Saturday Centre.

Curriculum Tutors - We are recruiting music specialists to join our supportive team of Curriculum Tutors in delivering whole class primary music curriculum lessons. The appointed tutor would deliver Southwark Music's newly updated Curriculum Music Scheme across the primary age range ensuring that music is integrated into the culture of the school. The scheme covers singing, pitch work, rhythm reading, percussion playing and active listening. All curriculum tutors receive thorough training and continual mentoring and support throughout their time working for Southwark Music.

Whole Class Ensemble Tutors - We are recruiting a range of instrumental specialists to join our team of whole class tutors. We are especially keen to hear from woodwind and ukulele teachers. Successful applicants will teach in a diverse range of primary schools in the borough, using the service's own schemes of work to deliver progressive and enjoyable lessons. All Southwark music tutors are given training upon commencement of the role, as well as many opportunities to develop their teaching practice through CPD sessions.

Southwark Music Saturday Centre Instrumental Tutors - We are recruiting instrumental specialists in woodwind and drum kit to join our team of tutors at the Saturday Centre. Successful applicants would join an enthusiastic group of tutors who come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their teaching. We take a holistic approach to music making with pupils across the primary and secondary age range, taught in groups and taking part in instrumental ensembles.

The nature of the job requires initiative and a proactive approach as well as the ability to work under pressure.

For the Saturday Centre Instrumental Tutor role you must be available to work each Saturday in term time.
