Your new roleNational Highways is recruitinga SeniorEngineer to join our Technology Team within our Operations Directorate in the Yorkshire andNorthEast of England,which can be based in one of our Wakefield or DarlingtonOffices.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to apply your technical knowledge and expertise in the identification and development of solutions for technology schemes for our Capital Highways Renewals Programme consisting of road renewals and all associated assets such as Traffic Signals, Message Signs, CCTV and other Technology Assets. Working in the Technology team will give you the opportunity to develop your skills in the technology field and other disciplines with the Asset teams.You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position

What youll be leading onEnsuring the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.Undertaking the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria for highways technology assets.Develop early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.Project management of technology improvements and/or renewals schemes from initial options stage though to the end of technical design.Developing the technical briefs provided to the design organisation and managing the delivery of survey works for the improvement and renewal of assets.To be successfulHold a degree or HND in a relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent.Ability to manage consultants and contractors with an understanding of contract and project management.Experience in developing highway improvement schemes from identification through to the end of preliminary design.Ability to oversee the production of feasibility studies, assessments and preliminary designs.To undertake technical reviews of third party designs to ensure that they comply with standards, design briefs and Design for Maintenance Requirements.Experience in relevant construction and delivery methods and knowledge of CDM 2015A bit about usOperations is at the heart of keeping the strategic road network moving and ensuring our customers get the best possible experience when using our roads.We address over 39,000 customer enquiries every month, plan and deliver all maintenance activities on the network, drive efficiencies and improvements across our systems and roads, and respond to incidents across 4,500 miles of motorways and major A-roads that we manage.
