Mirada Medical develops  medical imaging and cancer treatment planning solutions that provide simple and accessible solutions to complex image analysis problems in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases. Our solutions interoperate with other IT systems in the healthcare enterprise, such as EHRs and PACS, empowering users to access our clinical solutions when and where appropriate and to exchange data. Our  treatment planning solutions improve consistency and productivity while enabling clinicians to deliver more personalised care. The Software Development department is responsible for the delivery of medical software products used in hospitals to diagnose cancers and help plan the patient’s treatment, following up their response to treatment over time. These products make a direct contribution to how effectively and efficiently doctors can help their patients. The medical devices are sold directly to end users under Mirada’s brand or integrated in other vendors’ solutions. The department collaborates with the Quality and Regulatory department to ensure that products are manufactured to the required standards for the countries where they are sold, and with the Science and Product Managers to ensure all Mirada products contain the required functionality and satisfy the users’ needs. 

Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for taking a leading role in the design and development of areas within Mirada’s software to meet with client requirements. You are responsible for ensuring development is within the process and practices of the applicable software development process and contribute to improve and enhance development environment and products. There are opportunities to line manage more junior engineers. 

The main duties and responsibilities of the role are:

  • Software development including analysis, architecture and design, development, testing and all associated documentation.
  • Estimation and regular updating of progress of all tasks  
  • Active participation in reviews of the work of own and others  
  • Proactively participates in company and functional improvement initiatives.  
  • Line management and coaching & mentoring of the team.
  • Actively participate in the quality process and contribute to its continuous improvement.  
  • Work individually or as part of a team and interacting with all functional groups as required.  
  • Support and maintenance activities for software issues including, where necessary, site-visits  
  • Research, investigation and prototyping in new areas when requested.  
  • Validation of internal and 3rd party software  
  • May coordinate and lead the work of small teams, reporting progress to the Software Development Manager  
  • May be expected to become the lead or specialist in one or more technologies or disciplines.  
  • Pursue learning and self-development and sharing of knowledge with others.  
  • Occasional general administrative duties as required.  

We are looking for the following skills and competencies :

  • Experience in Java development, including the use of Swing (or willingness to learn)    
  • Experience of working with IDE, source control systems, issue tracking systems and build systems.  
  • Experience of developing software to requirement specifications  
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a leading role. 
  • Understanding the full software development lifecycle  
  • Ability to gather input from key stakeholders during design phase.  
  • The ability to analyse and use initiative to solve technical challenges. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical users.  
  • Experience of medical imaging and the DICOM standard is highly advantageous.
