Cambridge, United Kingdom Cubiq Recruitment Full time

Hello I'm Brendan from Cubiq Recruitment.

I'm excited to share that we're hiring a Principal Integrated Photonics Engineer (Group Lead) for our Quantum Computing client based in Cambridge, UK

In this role, you will lead a team of 5-7 highly-skilled professionals conducting research & development to build fast, low-loss single-photon compatible integrated photonic components and cutting-edge quantum circuit architectures. You'll be at the forefront of developing Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (Q-PICs) that will define the future of quantum networking and quantum computer interconnect technology.

Your work will involve:

  • Developing integrated photonics components and circuits with active and passive elements
  • Setting up measurements and preparing interfaces for PIC characterization
  • Conducting characterisation measurements of active and passive devices on integrated photonics platforms
  • Contributing to the design and modelling of photonic devices for quantum technology applications

Our client is on a mission to commercialize research from the Cavendish Laboratory and shape the future of quantum information systems. They're working on exciting technology to improve and accelerate quantum computing systems, integrating novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure.

Role Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree in Physics or Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with optical and electro-optical characterisation of photonic components and circuits
  • Good understanding of low-loss optical coupling fibre to photonic chip
  • Experience with CAD design software (e.g., IPKISS, NAZCA, GDSPY, GDS Factory)
  • Prior experience collaborating with external PIC foundries on quantum applications
  • Experience with photonics device & circuit simulation software (e.g., Ansys Lumerical)
  • Modeling & RF measurement experience in integrated microwave photonics
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python) for measurement & data analysis
  • Commercial experience working with integrated photonics in a Quantum application or Quantum networking environment

You Should Apply If:

  • You're passionate about quantum technology and its potential to revolutionize computing
  • You have a proven track record of high-quality project delivery and technical leadership
  • You enjoy mentoring and managing junior engineers
  • You can present complex topics to senior management and represent the company externally
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment, working with external partners and writing reports

You Should Not Apply If:

  • You prefer working with established technologies rather than cutting-edge research
  • You're not comfortable with the fast-paced and evolving nature of quantum technology
  • You're not willing to relocate to Cambridge, UK
  • You lack commercial experience in integrated photonics within Quantum applications or networking

About Our Client:

They're building the future of quantum information systems, starting with technology that will improve the utility and accelerate the time-to-market of quantum computing systems. They partner with world-leading companies and academic groups to integrate novel quantum photonic technology and form an efficient, scalable quantum networking infrastructure.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: £100,000 per annum
  • Visa sponsorship available
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Opportunity for career development and personal growth
  • Chance to work on groundbreaking quantum technology

Interview Process:
