The Director of SME lending is responsible for the business and commercial lending book, covering the full customer continuum ranging from small business customers all the way up to large trading businesses.
What you will do:
  • Lead the strategic direction, development, management and commercial performance of Metro Bank Business and Commercial lending products (term lending, revolving facilities, credit cards and government guarantee programs across secured and unsecured lending)
  • Manage and own the Business and Commercial lending performance and associated P&L; as well as costs and balance sheet targets in partnership with Distribution, Credit Risk and Finance functions. Ensure the business meets objectives and supports the Bank's wider strategic objectives of becoming the leading UK Community Bank
  • Run a team that manages the Business and Commercial lending products covering strategy, growth and performance management, product management including pricing, channel mix, P&L including income streams and direct costs, competitor analyses, customer behaviour, feedback loop and risk management ).
  • Establish and lead a direct team and work in partnership with relevant functions on day-to-day ownership of key product financial and non-financial risks and regulatory requirements - achieved through effective collaboration, role modelling culture, adherence to product governance, marketing and sales collateral, incident management and remediation, completion of product reviews, oversight of product-related EODs and key risk indicators. Escalate appropriately, where requirements are not being met.
  • Lead commercially beneficial third-party relationships with relevant suppliers/partners to maximise the distribution and servicing of Metro Bank Business and Commercial Lending products to create.
  • Foster strong relationships across risk (1 st ,2 nd and 3 rd Line of Defense), distribution (Regional Banking, Regional Commercial Banking, Large Trading and Partnerships remote and digital), banking products (deposits, business and commercial current accounts,) marketing, operations, technology, digital, procurement to evolve towards the established vision and balance delivery of commercial targets, fulfilment of customer needs and protection of the Bank
  • Recruit, engage and retain a high performing team. You will provide stretching objectives to support development and provide ongoing support. You will actively foster talent. You recognise the value of diversity of opinion and experience in your team.

What you will need:
  • Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
  • Experienced professional with leadership experience in SME Banking (including lending) products
  • Expert knowledge of commercial lending markets, product management, strategy and propositions development.
  • Commercial and analytical individual, with understanding of how to run a P&L and deliver the required value for Metro Bank and creating credible business cases (including financial and commercial forecasting experience) for proposition development, and ongoing evolution (including innovation).
  • Strategic Thinker, with experience and the capability to execute product strategy in alignment with wider Bank strategy, cognizant of operational realities.
  • Be able to make informed, risk based decisions, and coach others to do so.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, management and communication skills, with a natural desire to nurture and inspire others.
