An outstanding job opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist in a Mental Health Hospital service in Haslemere, Surrey. Other post-qualification training relative to the role and OPMH (Older People’s Mental Health) or Forensic Psychiatry
To work effectively as a clinician across the service - Low Secure, Locked Ward and Nursing Home - with complex and challenging patients with severe and enduring mental illness, cognitive deficits, and other conditions
To assess patients/residents and report on and develop Occupational Therapy treatment plans
To carry out Occupational Therapy interventions with patients and residents focusing on the maintenance of skills and quality of life
To work with the Therapies team in the planning, facilitation, and evaluation of the Therapies programme within the service
To provide ward-based and community-based Occupational Therapy interventions
To evaluate Occupational Therapy treatment effectively
To provide clear, accurate clinical notes using the Carenotes software
To provide a consultative role to professionals from other units, the Care Quality Commission, and the Second Opinion Appointed Doctor (SOAD)s
To provide clinical supervision to Activity Co-ordinators and other members of the department as delegated, in line with professional and organisational policies and procedures
To participate actively in mandatory training, including Non-Abusive Physical and Psychological Interventions (NAPPI)
To participate in the induction, training, and education of staff in the department
To act as a fieldwork educator for student Occupational Therapists as appropriate
To maintain professional development through engagement in CPD activities
To set a Personal Development Plan and undertake training as agreed with the Lead Occupational Therapist
To develop knowledge of and adherence to security policies and procedures, including organisational policies and procedures, See Think Act and the Secure Hospital Standards
To manage clinical risk through familiarity with histories, care plans and risk assessments of patients and residents
To manage tools and risk items as per policies and procedures
To be familiar with and participate in departmental security in accordance with policies and procedures
To ensure familiarity with the hospital radio system and personal alarms
To understand and adhere to organisational policies
Awareness of Health and Safety Legislation including COSHH, RIDDOR and Food Hygiene
To have knowledge of relevant legislation including Mental Health Act 1983 (updated 2007), Mental Capacity Act (2005) and their application to the patient group
To participate in audits and data collection within the hospital
To participate in and lead on the weekly activities data collection and provide reports based on these, in liaison with the Lead Occupational Therapist
To take into account the individuality of views, wishes and beliefs of patients/residents and their carers/families
To promote respect for diversity and combat stigma and exclusion at every opportunity
To ensure adherence to policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and appropriate reporting
At least 1 years’ experience at Band 5 or equivalent in OPMH or Forensic Psychiatry
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983/2007) and its application
Understanding of vulnerable adult and children safeguarding procedures
Demonstrate professional development relevant to the care of older people
Knowledge of assessment and management of clinical risk
