Job Title: Charity Shop Manager

Do you have the enthusiasm and energy to keep the tills ringing at our charity shop?

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced Charity Shop Manager to run our charity shop in Hitchin so that we can continue to help hundreds of cats each year.

Our branch aims to extend its reach within the community to assist more animals, with the shop playing a vital role in both generating revenue and promoting our mission.

With the support of volunteers, you will oversee all operations of the shop, focusing on maximizing income, managing stock, merchandising, and motivating your team of volunteers.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about fashion, has a knack for spotting collectibles, and enjoys various forms of recycling and upcycling.

Excellent customer service is essential, catering to both human and furry customers, so we are in search of someone who wholeheartedly supports our charitable goals.

Responsibilities: Retail Sales

- Maximising income from donated stock, ensuring the highest standards of retail display and merchandising.

- Ensuring that the shop and window presentation standards are met including the rotation of goods, window displays and promotional activities.

- Ensuring high levels of customer service are maintained.

- Find creative and innovative solutions to drive productivity and efficiency.

Leading and Managing

- Recruit and support volunteers in their roles adhering to the agreed branch standards, branch policies and procedures and any other relevant legislation.

- Complete annual appraisals and regular one-to-one reviews with shop staff.

- Manage staff and volunteer rotas to meet the needs of the charity shop, ensuring that there is an adequate level of cover to operate an effective charity shop operation.

- Lead and inspire the team to continuously improve and evolve, creating a “can do” teamwork, supportive and positive culture.

- Working closely with other RSPCA branches to promote a collaborative culture.

- Ensure that all staff and volunteers receive timely and ongoing training, development and feedback to ensure they grow and fulfil their duties to the best of their abilities.

Administration and Financial Management

- Maximise available resources of finance, staff and equipment to deliver excellent standards whilst achieving financial targets.

- Ensure maximum economy of resources and achieve best value for money.

- Maximise gift aid income from donated goods.

- Ensure all financial management, cash handling, daily banking and security procedures are followed.

- Accurate and timely completion of all necessary administration and paperwork required by the role.

Health and Safety

- Maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness throughout the shop, including sales floor, stock processing area, office and communal areas.

- Comply with the branch's health and safety policy (including fire safety, risk assessments and security procedures) and relevant legislation.

Security of Building(s) and Equipment

- Assume overall responsibility for the shop premises including key holding.

- Ensure all equipment is well maintained, reporting any damage or necessary repairs to the Charity Shop Trustee.

Other Responsibilities

- Attend meetings, events and training courses as required.

- Promote the shop in the local area using all available promotional opportunities, subject to any branch rules for communication with the media.

- Actively promote all Branch and Society initiatives and campaigns to promote awareness of the charity.

- Ensure General Data Protection Rules are adhered to for any personal data held in the shop.

- Carry out such additional or other duties of a reasonable nature as directed by the Trustees from time to time, in consultation with the post holder, to meet the needs of the Branch.

Skills (essential): - Good general level of education to GCSE standard or equivalent

- Comprehensive retail management experience

- Excellent customer are skills with the ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations

- Proven line management experience

- Experience of working with and recruiting volunteers

- Experience of managing budgets and accounts

- Experience of cash handling and financial management procedures (including completion of sales records)

- Training, coaching and mentoring skills

- IT literate and skilled in MS Office applications

- Good planning, organisational and time management skills

- Willingness to learn and acquire new skills through training and development

- Ability to motivate, inspire and positively influence others

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal & written)

- Sound judgement and decision making

- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues at all levels

- Emotional resilience to manage the potentially emotional demands of the role

- A positive and proactive attitude and willingness to work with members of the public, staff and volunteers

- Willing and able to travel around the branch area and work at other charity shops if required

- Sympathy with the RSPCA's aims and policies

- Full clean manual UK driving licence

Skills (desirable):

- First Aid trained

- Charity retail management experience

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) role including some weekend working.
