Position overview:

As the tumuaki/principal of Somerfield Te Kura Wairepo, you will lead a dedicated team of educators with the support of the Board of Trustees in providing an exceptional educational experience for ākonga. You will have the opportunity to shape the school's vision, inspire innovation, and promote a culture of collaboration, equity and excellence. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities, a deep understanding of teaching and learning practice and curriculum development, and a passion for nurturing the growth and wellbeing of every ākonga and kaimahi.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership to inspire and motivate kaimahi, ākonga, and whānau.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that values diversity and promotes ākonga belonging, engagement and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with kaiako to develop and implement innovative, high quality teaching and learning practices that meet the needs of all ākonga.
  • Build strong relationships with whānau and stakeholders to support student success and enhance the school's connection to its community.
  • Ensure effective school management, including budgeting, resource allocation, property management, and compliance with legislation and policies.

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualified teacher.
  • Postgraduate qualification in educational leadership preferred but not required.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within an educational setting, with a track record of leading effective teacher practice to maximise outcomes for all students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • A deep commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, belonging, equity and excellence.
