The Role
Title: Senior Data Engineer
Location: Hybrid - Derby office twice a week
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours
As a Senior Data Engineer for Motorpoint, you should be highly analytical with a background and experience in mathematics, statistics, and computer programming. You will be expected to help define and design both infrastructure and optimize and maintain an environment. Fluent with data engineering and architecture, database design and data modeling, data platforms – you connect data and reporting to our business and customers. Passionate about building data, pipelines and platforms, you keep updated on new developments in technology and using open source; understanding how such can benefit customers and business.
What will you be getting up to?
- Work with the Head of Data on developing the current and future environment and infrastructure
- Help initiate best practices in ways of working
- Play key role in rolling out a data governance plan
- Mentor and occupy a position of responsibility in the Data Team
- Develop, maintain, and optimize Motorpoint’s data infrastructure and platforms for reliability, scalability, and affordability
- Automate the collection and cleansing, accuracy of data using best practices in data pipelines and processes
- Create and maintain self-service tools and platforms for access to reporting and analysis
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to understand business requirements and design data models to support reporting, analysis, and AI/ML
- Communicate technical outputs and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences in an engaging and impactful way
- Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and apply them to our data infrastructure
What do we need from you?
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist, Data Engineer, or Data Analyst
- Strong expertise in data modelling and architectures (data lake, data hub, data vault)
- Experience with database design, ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines
- Experience with data warehousing, cloud based data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks running on AWS or Azure
- Proficiency with SQL, Python and large data sets
- Critical thinking, problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and storytelling with data
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- BSc/BA in Computer Science, STEM field or significant experience in lieu of degree
