Engineering Manager - Test & Approvals

The Engineering Manager for the Test and Approvals department will lead a team in the verification and validation of product lines for Deep Sea Electronics.


​The Deep Sea Electronics’ T&A Department forms part of the engineering function for the Controls and Automation (C&A) Business group, a subsidiary of the Generac Power Systems, that includes the Germany based Motortech.​


​The role will develop an individual with a deep working knowledge of the market leading DSE range of power generation control and automation products and programable devices for the off-highway applications.​


The T&A Department is split across two sites, Hunmanby North Yorkshire and a site in Mansfield. As such, regular travel between these two sites will be necessary.

​Requirements:

  • Knowledge of software development life cycles, tools and processes
  • Verification and validation techniques and for both hardware and software
  • Continuous development, continuous integration and automated testing knowledge
  • Experience working within an engineering department at a senior level, ideally in the V&V function
  • Engineering degree in electrical or electronic engineering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with combined stage gated (waterfall) / agile development approaches
  • Comfortable communicating with technical engineers



​Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Line management of the Test and Approvals Engineering Team
  • Line management includes day to day task management, 1:1 appraisal, goal setting, creating and guiding personal development plans, holiday approval and sickness review
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Mangers to review the content of development projects and provide estimate for test work
  • Produce test plans and work with Project Management to manage day to day testing work by allocating tasks to engineers
  • Review and be responsibility for testing work to ensure a high standard of output
  • Ensure the engineers have the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to complete the tasks.Work with the department manager to address gaps as necessary
  • Manage the T&A facilities and building space, including HIL rigs, EMC labs and apparatus, Environmental chambers and other test equipment
  • Identify and introduce KPIs for the improvement of product quality
  • Work at the early project stages to review specifications and ensure products and requirements are testable
  • Ensure the team understands requirements, product functionality and test plans, such that they are carried out completely and correctly
  • Provide technical guidance, make decisions and be a mentor to junior engineers
  • Development of in-house tools and process
  • Support the wider company by answering technical questions
  • Administration and maintenance of documentation forming part of the quality management system
  • Review department KPIs to ensure targets are being hit
