Our client is a well known and long established privately owned company that has been providing machining and fabrication services to industry since 1974. The company is based out of Ossett, Wakefield, which provides quick and easy access to all major routes throughout the UK. They work from a large manufacturing unit boasting 80,000 sq ft capacity and offer a range of services including heavy steel fabrication, mechanical pipe fabrication and installation, and thermal store/buffer vessels.We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Graduate Estimator to join our dynamic team. The Graduate Estimator will play a crucial role in supporting our estimating department in accurately assessing the costs associated with manufacturing projects. This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their career in manufacturing and gain valuable experience in estimation processes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Customer Enquiries: Assess customer enquiries and understand specific build/design codes for all our fabrications.
* Cost Estimation: Produce accurate and competitive costings that ensure profitability.
* Technical Quotations: Generate detailed technical quotations specifying design codes, delivery periods, material types, inclusions, exclusions, and commercial terms.
* Order Follow-up: Follow up on quotations to secure orders and build strong customer relationships.
* Project Coordination: Liaise with production managers to ensure delivery dates are met and keep clients informed on project progress.
* Technical Liaison: Collaborate with engineers on technical aspects of projects, passing calculations and initial sketches to the drawing office.
* Client Approval: Send drawings to clients for approval and organise/attend site meetings as necessary.
* Purchasing Approval: Approve costs for purchasing and provide technical support to the purchasing office.
* Logistics Coordination: Arrange internal and external transport for deliveries and collections.
* Contract Management: Oversee project contracts and ensure smooth handover to relevant departments.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field is preferred.
* Experience: Experience in a similar role within the mechanical engineering industry is preferred but not essential.
* Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of build/design codes, cost estimation, and project management.
* Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective customer and team interactions.
* Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in producing costings and quotations.
* Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
