Job Introduction

At BBC West, we are looking for talented people to be at the heart of our relationship with our local audiences. We want someone to lead our multiplatform Local News Story Team in Wiltshire. You will be adept at bringing the best stories to our digital audiences via the BBC News website, app and on our social media channels, you will be responsible for news content on BBC Radio Wiltshire, and have a big hand in bringing the best of these stories to TV audiences on Points West.

You'll be at the centre of news for the BBC in Wiltshire. This demanding but rewarding role requires somebody who is able to balance many competing demands while bringing the best content to our audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be a Senior Journalist Team Manager looking after a group of journalists based in Swindon.
  • Your main responsibility will be helping them to deliver the best news stories first on digital, and on radio and TV.
  • You will work in Swindon but have a big role in working with the regional story hub and planning teams in Bristol.
  • You will know the best way to coach people to deliver digital content in the right way, and to be able to sub and put live some of these stories.
  • Radio will be a big part of your working life and your journalists will be expected to deliver news content for BBC Radio Wiltshire - including programme and bulletin content.
  • You will be expected to lead and support team members as required and ensure best practice is always followed.

Are you the right candidate?

  • Audiences are at the heart of everything we do in BBC Local and you will use your understanding, data, feedback and reports to demonstrate your ability to adapt ways of working to ensure a high-quality offering.
  • You need to have sound editorial judgement and be assertive in making decisions on matters of editorial sensitivity under pressure.
  • You will be comfortable working across multiple platforms - digital, radio and TV - ensuring we break our big stories on our digital platforms.
  • You will have experience in working efficiently and accurately to rolling deadlines and respond to breaking news.
  • You will have demonstrable experience of embracing technology, adopting up new skills and adapting to the changing demands of a digital working environment. In addition, you will have managed or mentored others in this area too.
