BBC Studios is investing in Welsh speaking talent across a number of training opportunities on the BBC's longest running soap, Pobol y Cwm. These roles are being brought to life by BBC Studios and Siop Un Stop-One Stop Shop, a BFI Skills Cluster for Wales.

This opportunity is for people studying electrics, or already in the field but in a different setting - i.e domestic. We need people who have the 18th Edition qualification, and overall a strong interest in electrics and TV drama.

Dates

Pobol y Cwm: 2nd - 17th December

Dedicated training on set (while filming is paused) and in a classroom + 2 weeks shadowing at a later time (Feb onwards) for those who successfully complete the first 12 days

What is a Trainee Electrician:

The Trainee Electrician will learn how to oversee all aspects of lighting and electrical systems. They will to be responsible for supporting the Gaffer to design lighting set-ups that convey the desired mood and effect to achieve the ambitions of the production.

What will you do?

Working with our team of sparks, you will be shown how we plan, operate, rig and de-rig electrical equipment, particularly lighting.

Under the guidance of a mentor you may be required to test, clean and repair equipment, as well as programme dimmers and circuit boards, wrap up cables, carry stands and generally support by fetching and carrying equipment.

Trainees will spend 7 days in a classroom and 5 days on set while filming of the show is paused. Upon successful completion of the first 12 days, trainees who demonstrate they are passionate and committed to their area of interest will be offered 2 weeks shadowing on Pobol y Cwm when shooting starts again in February 2025.
