Finance Apprentice

Contract Type: 2-Years Fixed-Term Contract

Equal Opportunities

At Transport for Wales we value diversity. It makes us stronger, helps us understand our customers better, make better decisions and be more innovative. Everyone's different and has their own perspective so we're building a diverse team that mirrors the communities we serve. Through this we're determined to be one of Wales' leading inclusive employers. We're creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we're on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that's rail, bus, walking or cycling. We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we're all facing.

We're an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome and our people are supported to reach their full potential. We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed. This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we've made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Apprenticeship Academy - What's on offer

Whether you're making your first transition into employment or changing careers and would like the opportunity to gain further qualifications without following the traditional educational route, an apprenticeship with us could be just the ticket to help you achieve your career goals and aspirations.

We firmly believe that everybody deserves opportunities to access apprenticeships and our aim is moving towards a diverse organisation at all levels. We want to be fully representative of our diverse communities across Wales.

When you join our academy, you will join a well-established community of apprentices across all areas of the business. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Earn whilst you learn
  • Gain valuable on the job skills and work experience
  • Learn from industry experts
  • Study towards a nationally recognised qualification at college, university or through one of our trusted apprenticeship delivery partners.
  • Be part of our development programme where you'll have access to a wide range of learning and development resources to help you grow both personally and professionally.

Is an Apprenticeship right for you?

To help you decide if an apprenticeship is right for you, we have outlined the main eligibility criteria below.

  • Most of our apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 and there's no upper age limit. Please note that for safety critical roles the minimum age will be higher.
  • You must not already be in full time education at the point of the apprenticeship start date.
  • You must not have already achieved a similar or higher-level qualification in the apprenticeship role you have applied for. For example, if you have a degree in Engineering, you will not be eligible to apply for an Engineering apprenticeship. However, you could apply for another apprenticeship in a different profession, such as Finance.

Apprenticeship role responsibilities

We are recruiting a Finance Apprentice to join our Finance Team. You'll undertake a two-year defined programme in which you will contribute to the development and delivery of TfW's finance service delivery. You will study towards a nationally recognised qualification, AAT Level 2, with one of our trusted apprenticeship delivery partners.

  • Deliver a wide range of finance activities by working closely with the Senior Finance Business Partners to ensure you deliver to time, cost and quality.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Business Partners to support the Directors/budget holders in all directorates by providing administrative and research support to ensure the team has sufficient subject matter knowledge to resolve queries and provide insightful financial information.
  • Support the Finance Business Partners in updating and maintaining several forecasting workbooks using Microsoft Excel, upload forecast in Dynamics in order to submit forecasts for consolidation and produce forecasting reports via Power BI.
  • Support the Finance Business Partners with raising all sales invoices to the Welsh Government and any other third party via Dynamics accountancy system. This will help with correct VAT return and timely third-party income.
