Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare Trust are currently searching for a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of their incredible team in Hounslow.

HRCH provides community health services for around 523,000 people registered with GPs in the London boroughs of Hounslow and Richmond.The Trust currently employ around 1,300 people, who work across a wide range of health centres, hospitals, GP surgeries, children's centres, local council facilities and in community settings – including in people's homes. This helps people across the community to stay well, manage their own health with the right support and avoid stays in hospital.

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To deliver assessment and management for pre-school and school-age children with complex speech, language or communication difficulties ensuring that the service is effective and responsive to the changing needs of the local population across HRCH.
  • To ensure effective joint working practice between the SLT service, other speech & language therapists (SLT) and other relevant professional teams in the fields of health, education, the voluntary sector, social services etc.
  • To deliver training to parents and professionals in order to develop their skills and knowledge enabling them to adapt the communicative environment and reinforce identified targets throughout the day.
  • To be responsible for providing support, specialist advice, training and second opinion for therapists within the team including participating in clinical supervision in line with the clinical supervision policy

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To deliver highly-specialist clinical decision-making, including assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment, evaluation and general independent management of a diverse and highly complex caseload.
  • To run clinical services with full autonomous clinical decision-making and independent case management.
  • To maintain an up-to-date, advanced level of theoretical knowledge and therapeutic evidence-based practice regarding specialist area/s.
  • To provide highly-specialist opinion and advice for speech and language therapists and other professionals on speech language and speech and language and communication difficulties
  • To provide highly-specialist advice to parents/carers and other professionals on the impact and management of the child's communication needs on intellectual and social/emotional development, in order to enable the child to achieve his/her academic and social potential.
  • To provide highly-specialist reports, therapy programmes and other types of complex written information of an excellent standard for users, families and associated professionals and to adapt the content to the communication styles and diversity of the recipients.
  • To seek guidance from clinical supervisor as appropriate
  • To keep up to date records on the electronic patient record (SystmOne)
  • To overcome barriers to understanding or motivation, (which may include English as an Additional Language and/or learning or language disability or mental health difficulties in the parents/carers), for effective treatment to take place.
  • To develop effective, proactive, collaborative partnerships with medical and education professionals and other relevant agencies in order to meet the needs of the client and family. This could also include Child Protection cases.
  • To maintain equipment standards complying with health, safety and hygiene regulations, reducing risk to clients and therapists

Important Requirements:

  • Degree and professional Speech and Language Therapy qualification
  • Registered with HPC and RCSLT
  • MSc or equivalent post graduate study and training in specialist area
  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Network or equivalent
  • Significant level of appropriate experience of working in specialist field, ideally at least 5 years
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A caring, empathetic approach to all patients
  • A proactive and professional work ethic
