1. Core role

  • Provide a fully flexible support service to the Town Council, providing a full range of administrative duties.
  • To ensure the Council has good communication with the local community
  • In consultation with line manager, carry out any action as required following Council meetings.
  • Customer receptionist and telephonist services as required.

2. Administration duties

  • Provide administrative support to include word processing, photocopying, ensuring administrative procedures are followed and standards maintained.
  • Maintain the Mayor's diary, dealing with all correspondence, invitations, and responses.
  • Undertake filing duties and associated routine matters, ensuring all security and confidentiality systems are maintained.
  • Participate in the archiving and destruction of records and maintain associated data processing systems.
  • Update the Town Council's website and social media.

3. Customer service

  • Provide high quality first point of contact reception service, acting as receptionist/telephonist.

4. Communications

  • Prepare press releases and newsletters and circulate as agreed with the Town Clerk or Deputy Clerk to relevant press lists
  • In conjunction with the line manager, prepare copy and produce other items as required e.g. newsletter, leaflets, posters etc
  • Maintain uptodate information on the partner websites such as Visit Wiltshire
  • As part of a team assist in planning and coordination any projects which may be undertaken by the Town Council.
  • As part of a team assist in the planning and coordination of Town Council events e.g. Civic Reception, Civic Service, Remembrance Service, Spring in the Park, Christmas Market and Light Switch on etc.

5. Other duties


The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post.

The duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

Salary on the Local Government Pay Scale SCP7 -11 (£ £12.47 per hour)

Entrance into Local Government Pension Scheme

Hours of work: 16 per week.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 1:30-4:30

Friday 9:00-4:30
