GIS Engineer - Offshore Wind Project

The Geospatial Specialist will provide technical GIS information, data management, analytics and visualization support to our Integrated Energy customer. You will work closely and exclusively with multiple offshore wind projects, taking them through the DCO process, engineering and construction phases. A candidate will be expected to have familiarity with either the UK (Crown Estate or ScotWind) and/or other country specific development consenting processes for wind projects.

Role Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:
  • Act as the lead for geospatial activities within a wind project.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage geospatial resources and support across the project.
  • Develop innovative solutions and procedures and promote best practice to improve efficiency and quality within the geospatial team and across projects.
  • Review all scopes of work and method statements for third party suppliers where a geospatial deliverable will be required.
  • Undertake geospatial mapping, analysis, data capture, data management and geoprocessing.
  • Provide geospatial Data Management on projects to both internal and external clients.
  • Conduct Quality Control and Quality Assurance of data and outputs.
  • Advise project staff on all geospatial related issues.
  • Develop and maintain geospatial web-based applications.
  • Provide technical support for the implementation and operation of geospatial projects.
  • Perform geospatial analysis, modelling and reporting to support decision making.
  • Understand the geospatial concepts and inputs to LCOE modelling.
  • Ensure the controlled connection of geospatial data between wind yield, layout planning and project developments teams.
  • Generate, maintain and disseminate geospatial layers, maps and metadata.

The Geospatial Specialist is a technical role for those who have a passion for data and a zeal to unlock and use data and analytics to inform better business decisions.

  • Adhering to the Geospatial standards for internal/external data and the risk of incorporating this data onto maps and data repositories. Promoting naming conventions, industry standard acronyms, codes, units of measure & symbols. Recognizing, fixing errors & inconsistences in data and fundamental workflows while managing implications of moving data and maps for avoiding data connection issues in the management of Geospatial Data.
  • The structure of various Geospatial data formats (shape file, geodatabase, raster, tabular, tin, etc.), and how to edit data in SDE Geodatabases. Know how and when to apply datum transformations, recognize, trouble-shoot and repair coordinate reference systems issues in existing datasets and how to determine which geodetic parameters were likely used for historic datasets
  • Import/export of data between ArcGIS and other applications, including using FME and related tools. Developing tools for data import/export of geospatial data where needed, being cognizant of the tools that already exist.
  • You have some familiarity with data-related technologies/ (e.g. FME, Python, R, ElasticSearch, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Reading, & modify the display properties of raster data sets for basic analysis. Performing spatial analysis with vector/raster data, including generating surfaces from point data, calculating isopachs and drawing contours.
  • The concept of spatial analysis, and what the software is capable of. Running simple analysis tools, creating basic models to automate simple workflows moving toward advanced models to automate complex geoscience workflows, basic scripting for editing attributes, writing short scripts for data manipulation and data QC.

Master's degree, GIS, Geographic Science, Computer Science, Survey Engineering, Related Field, or related Bachelor's degree with some relevant experience.
