An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Service (SOAMHS) for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work alongside the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to support individuals within the local Eastbourne community.

We are a secondary mental health community team accepting referrals from the Eastbourne Area. We deliver short term, goal focussed interventions for those with severe and enduring mental health care needs and those with a dementia diagnosis.

Our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) consists of Registered Mental Health Nurses, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Consultant Psychiatry, Speech and language therapist and support workers.

We're seeking an enthusiastic clinician with a passion for working with older peoples mental health and dementia services.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Service is an assessment and treatment Service which provides community based mental health treatment for adults with a diagnosis of dementia or severe and enduring mental health needs.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary team to support individuals improve independence and occupational functioning. You will be expected to use a recovery approach assisting individuals to follow their treatment plan and work towards their identified goals and monitor and review service user progress.

You will hold the role as lead practitioner for those on your caseload and provide occupational therapy interventions for referred clients using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. To promote and develop the role of Occupational Therapy within the clinical area.

Job responsibilities

You will be working with individuals who have mental health difficulties, their families and carers. Your communication and organisational skills will be highly valued as will your experience in health or social care. You must possess the skills to work in a team and on your own initiative. It is important that you have good written and verbal communication skills for liaison with colleagues, service users and external agencies. You will be self-motivated, keen to learn, and have a good understanding of how to support individual's recovery.

The post holder must have the ability to be organised, reactive and able to work under pressure. Our supportive team ethic makes this possible. We ensure all the staff have the support they require, the team receive regular supervision, Trust wide OT training, reflective practice, CPD sessions and annual appraisals.
