Assistant Practitioner: Orthoplastic Therapy

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the expansion of our Orthoplastic Therapy Team.

You will work along side Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and other members of the MDT to provide excellent therapy for patients post-operatively to optimise their recovery outcomes.

You will work in both acute ward settings and out-patient clinics.

If you have not already completed the Assistant Practitioner qualification you would have the opportunity to do so in a training post.


To assist in the identification of health and social care needs and participate in the delivery and evaluation of interventions developed to meet those needs under indirect supervision of a registered health or social care professional.


  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the critical care and acute ward settings, and to maintain clinical skill and competencies by working within both acute and rehabilitation functions of the service.
  • To provide supervision and assessment for more junior staff or those undergoing NVQ.
  • To be legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients under your care.
  • To undertake overview assessments of appropriate patients, as defined by specific criteria.
  • To interpret assessment information and plan patient care of designated patients, using judgement skills to decide upon and recommend the best course of action.
  • To refer patients to other practitioners when their needs are beyond own role or scope of practice.
  • To discuss and agree short, medium
- and long-term goals with identified patients.

  • To prioritise, develop and implement appropriate plans of care with the patient, carer and / or multidisciplinary team.
  • To work without direct supervision in the implementation of rehabilitation programmes, to meet prior agreed goals, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions whilst making any necessary modifications.
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload identified as requiring a rehabilitation programme.
  • To manage the caseload appropriately, taking an active role in progressing the rehabilitation programme and planning for discharge.
  • To determine equipment needs and provide and teach safe use of appropriate equipment.
  • To act as care coordinator for identified individuals.
